Gary Crowton has not ben fired, per Les Miles

GC isn't going to be fired. He's either taking another job or he will resign.

Either way, he wont be back next year.

For what it's worth, the text message could have easily been part of a larger conversation about Gary announcing his decision to move on during the meeting on Thursday.

So of course there's a need for him to communicate to his boss that he'll be able to attend in order to cover any appearances that he's leaving under less than polite circumstances.

Rumors of his retirement had been around for awhile. This is what a retirement looks like. Announcing a departure of another kind can still be done in this manner too. It's the professional way to do it.
