I'm not buying it!

They wanted 47-50 over:

Les Miles | 90-38 at 2 BCS schools

Jim Harbaugh | 58-27 at 1 BCS school and 1 non-BCS school

Who does Dave Brandon think he is fooling?

He was a long time Michigan assistant. He turned around a bad Ball State program. He was finally winning at a place many people have tried at in SDSU.

I'm not saying he's not a good coach. All I'm saying is that Dave Brandon is full of shite.

I think what went down at Michigan is that a lot of older players wanted Miles and the younger players like Desmond Howard and Charles Woodson's age wanted Hoke.

While Hoke isn't a sexy hire, I think it's a great hire. Hoke built the Ball St. program and then turned around the SDSU program. Hoke building the Ball St. program is why his career record isn't impressive but look at his season records individually and you can see that the guy turns things around. Furthermore, Hoke is a defensive coach and that usually bodes well when making a hire b/c defense wins championships.

To try to discount Hoke on his career record is like discounting or dismissing Gene Chizik. Who wants to discount Gene Chizik now?

He thought he was hiring a delivery driver. You don't "interview" the man you want. You go get him.

Im sure theUM fans aren't happy with Brandon saying this. They seem like a reasonable bunch and smart sports fans

This is the big time. Coaching at Michigan is about as big as it can get. If all of this is being said just to make Brady Hoke feel better about being choice number 3 or 450 for that matter, well then, he's in for a rude awakening.
For Brandon to lie, and then act like we are dumb enough to believe it is really kind of offensive. If anything he makes himself look like an idiot for saying he never offered to them.

When Michigan pays the next Cam Newton $200k and goes out and hires Malzahn for their offensive coordinator job, too, then OK.

Yea, I was gonna post that Chizik doesn't deserve that much credit for their NC. But that's just my opinion.

Hoke may be a great coach. Hell, looking at his resume it does seem like he has done a great job of building programs.

But he did it in the MAC and the MWC. Not the Big 10. It's going to be a lot harder because the competition he will face is a lot better.

I just can't believe that Brandon would have the audacity to say that Hoke was their #1 over a guy with a BCS NC and another win in a BCS bowl, and a guy with a BCS win at Stanford.

And hey, I'm fully aware that this may just be me being defensive because Brandon's comments are perceived as a slight against LSU.

huh? he had a overall losing record...just like Lynch before him. he was 34-38 in 6 yrs. yeah, they went 12-1 in his final season ('08), but 4 out of 6 yrs. he had a losing record. better? sure. but "turned around"? idk.

interesting, his replacement was 2-10 the yr. after Hoke bolted.

The crappy thing is that if things go further south or continue to suck for UM we will be having this issue all over again in 3 yrs.

I don't think you're being defensive at all. I can see how you would take offense, and quite honestly I don't blame you. Trust me, UofM fans are not going to take kindly to this either. Like I said, I find it offensive that he thinks anyone would buy into the fact that Brady Hoke was the #1 choice over two coaches with the accomplishments that you listed. You think people are just going to believe that you flew into Baton Rouge to ask Les Miles for his opinion or blessing on the next UofM hire. That is incredibly stupid!!
There was no need for him to lie. All he had to say was we got our coach, we think this is the best decision for the school and provide no further comment on who did or did not get offered.
