While Miles decides whether he should go to Michigan or notAleva needs to start making discreet inquiries about possible replacements

Forget Patterson, Petersen, Gruden, Del Rio etc.

We look at coaches in mid tier BCS program

We offer :
1. Mullen ( if you can win in Moo State, you can win at LSU ). But I doubt he comes.

2. Mike Sherman ( Green Bay packers HC for 5 years, Winning record in the NFL as a HC, has done well at A&M in another group of death with Texas, Oklahoma, Will run a pro-style offense which suits us well, some Texas experience recruiting, knows and values Mett)

We offer them Les' salary and also pay whatever buyout.

If they do not bite, we are in serious trouble.

Then we look at the second tier.

Malzahn, Butch Davis and Mike Leach.

Davis:
I do not know if Butch Davis will come. Great program builder. If he does it is good hire but could easily lead to probation. That's the worst possible thing.
I say NO. This is not a gangster program. Here we carry ourselves with class.

Mike Leach:
Mike Leach at least is a more or less clean coach and a great offensive mind. But of course he makes Miles look like Ronald Reagan as a communicator.

Malzahn: Has been a coordinator for 5 years. But no HC experience, no NFL experience. Scepter of Mike Archer comes to mind. But Mike Archer was 34, Malzahn is 45. Meyer was make HC at Florida at a younger age. We know he is a great offensive mind. But can he recruit? Can he manage other activities?

There is no safe choice here. I would go with Malzahn, if he turns down 3.75M then we go for Leach.

I would hope LSU has some things in the works.

I wish we knew more about what they were.

I was ok with everything except Mike Sherman.Have you seen there recruiting? They are in the thick of Texas recruiting and are terrible in that phase. They can't even hold onto the kids that are locks for them.He should be no where near our list.Guarntee you malzhan would jump at this job and he would(should at the very least)get called before Sherman.

You have to remember Les and Saban were not exactly household names. They were not popular hires. Saban was a little more high profile but not in the South. A good coach can be found. It does not have to be a big name hire.

Leach is not a clean coach. Have you read anything but your own posts? Tech is on probation for 2 years now bc of this guy.

He coached the packers for goodness sakes. I think he can coach, but he is old looking

We need a 40 something coach with a lot of energy

I like Jimbo
Mullen

bo is likely the only one that can probably jump ship

Sherman would be a terrible hire. I would take my chances with Kirby Smart over that guy.

Seems as if the knock on Sherman may be more about recruiting, Chicken. He was a coach in the NFL, so his X's and O's are probably damn good.

Mike Sherman may or may not be a good college coach. We will find out over the next 2 yrs. But to consider him as a prospect for the LSU job is ridiculous.

Realistic Hires

1) Art Briles - Baylor
2) Brady Hoke - San Diego State
3) Steve Sarkasion - Washington
4) Jack DelRio
5) (Maybe Petersen) Boise State
6) Bo Pelini (not a fit)

Stop with the unrealistic names of coaches who have just been hired or just signed contract extensions or at big programs making big money with long term contracts and buy outs.
