How it may go down....

Les may love Michigan and may really want to coach there but he knows he has a good thing going here. That puts him in a great position. I have a feeling if they do indeed contact him, Les will say "okay, I'm interested and I'd like to be your next coach but I have no time for BS.....if you want me, you have the rest of this conversation to make me an offer. If you can't do that, then move on"!!!!

The cash schools are willing ot throw up these days is silly - Stanford offering 5mill to Harbaugh?
Posted on 1/8/11 at 5:57 am to Bayou
Stanford didn't offer Harbaugh $5 million.

This is just like Sabah to Mia years ago. I thought the coach was gone then, I think he's gone now.
We are in great shape as a program but are looking for a coach at a bad time.

Hello Chris Petersen. Come in...over.

Miles has young kids. He and his wife may not want to uproot them. All the kids are active in local sports.

You don't rise to the level of head coach at big-time programs like LSU by always putting family first. Jimmy Johnson once said that his coaching ambition cost him his first marriage and if he had always put his family first, he would have spent his entire career coaching at Picayune High School.

This may be true, but going to Michigan is, at best, a lateral move. So he wouldn't be uprooting his family for a better coaching position. Rather a lateral move, at best, to his Alma mater.

You can thank bama for that. while coaching salaries may have headed to the heavens anyway Alabama made sure it happened by making $abun the highest paid coach even before he won a single game at bama.
He'll he's making more at bama than harbaugh,s making at the niners. Ridiculous

Right now and for the foreseeable future, LSU is a better job than Michigan. I think Miles will stay here, but he'll leverage the situation to get a contract extension and a raise. That's what I'd do.

You hit the proverbial nail on the head. He will be here, he will talk to Michigan personnel and then he will go back to agent to tell him to tell Alleva and lOMBbardi this is what they offered what will LSU counter with. Its all business and I would do the same as him.

And LSU should counter with a roll over in his current contract. Not a thing more.

Bear Bryant leaving Texas A&M in 1957 (where he had just coached the Heisman winner, John David Crow) for Alabama wasn't even a lateral move...it was a step down. He went because "Mama called".
Never underestimate the lure for these guys of coaching at their alma maters.

This is exactly why I say it should not be about the money in this situation.
Meaning LSU really shouldn't throw money at Miles over this

My feeling is (as bad as I'd like to keep him) that LSU shouldn't give in to any salary or rollover demands. If his agent IS using all this stuff to leverage more money out of LSU, then you're calling his bluff. If it turns out to be legit, we don't need to be getting into a bidding war w/ the man's alma mater.

We need to keep Miles' salary at market level. He commands one of the highest salaries in the country and should get it.
If we call his bluff, he may take the offer from UM. He has every right to find out what the market value is for his services and then ask LSU to match it. LSU probably doesn't have to match it, but should give him a good faith raise to let him know that he is wanted and appreciated. Otherwise, if I'm Miles, I take the offer from UM.

He has young kids that owned A&M last night. Every coach in the country is licking their chops for the chance to coach next years team.

Amen! When he's offered big bucks by major programs other than Michigan, such Florida, Texas, Penn State, etc., then I might consider throwing money at him.
