Look, realistically what big name is going to come here 5+ days into January and screw over their former employer in having to do a search themselves? The timing of this is awful. People are pissed because why did Dave Brandon honestly need this bowl game to know that RR was not our guy? Who realistically are we going to bring in in January that is going to unite the fan base? That is why people up here are pissed. Forget what Michigan man we will hire, it's the process people are completely pissed at.
So would it have made a difference to fire Rich Rod before the bowl game? Do you think Miles or whoever else they may go after is going to give a definitive answer between the end of the season and their bowl game? When would have been the ideal time to rid the program of Rich Rod? The bottom line is keeping Rich Rod was going to set the program back 1-2 years every year he is there...they are more than likely going to go with someone who runs a system like JH or LM and it will take time to get the right players in there...I guess I just don't understand the issue of timing...it was going to happen...why not save a couple million in the process?

this is interesting.

If you're limiting your choices to coaches with bowls yet to be played, this is true. Plenty of good candidates out their who have completed their seasons. maybe not from a Michigan perspective though, since they are only looking for "Michigan Men".

He could have really done it after the OSU game. I don't think he needed this bowl game to further evaluate. However, I've come off the ledge. Initially hearing the comments it sounded as if this was a garbage process, however the more I think about it I realize what could Dave Brandon have really said? He keeps crap close to the vest, that much is obvious with zero leaks coming from inside the AD throughout this entire process. Not to mention immediately after firing the HC he can't really say I've been looking at new coaches for a month, here is who I have lined up.
Assuming he lands us a great hire (not Hoke) I'm fine with this. Sorry for the earlier rambling, anger, etc.
BTW. Brandon never said he was specifically looking for someone with ties to Michigan, that is purely the media running with that story.

Brandon has had a lot to deal with since coming in March. Of course the FB program was front and center, but BB was troubled as well, and Hockey is facing a coaching change in the near term as well. Brandon has been handed a lot of nice new facilities, along with a mountain of debt that paid for them. Then the NCAA "stretching" violations thing. Personally, I think he knew shortly after he got here that the FB program was going to be torn up again. Maybe he thought he could get JH, but still the program was going to be torn up. So what timing fixes that? In his mind, no timing fixes or even helps that. Just hiring the right guy. Up until the wire he probably felt he could woo JH, but to no avial. But, that changes nothing, he needs to get the right guy and now he will go "seeking" him out. Disappointing, but this day was set in motion years ago (around 2006) when CARR wanted to leave, but stayed to sell the New Big House concept, but forgot to recruit anyone for the next two years. Who ever came after CARR was already doomed then, they just didn't know it.
