By Dan Wetzel, Josh Peter and Jeff Passan.

Anybody ever read it? I found the argument to be pretty good.

And I, for one, did not realize that most schools actually make very little money or lose money off the bowl system if they can't sell their tix and they have to share with other teams in the conference.

Is it true they're adding the Cotton Bowl to the BCS rotation soon. Heard someone in Oklahoma talkin about it.

For those who haven't read it, they basically argue that the Bowls are leeches holding the entire sport back.

They are essentially like the concert promoters who run off with all the cash in the end.

An on-campus playoff, they argue, would make the schools and conferences much much more money, both in terms of event revenue and television deals, and it would also be way more fair than the current system.

I think it is true that Jerry Jones is trying to make that happen.

Sure sounds like it to me.

BCS does a great job pitting the top two teams in the BCS NC Game.

i don't think anybody not associated with a bowl argues against this, really

yes

but how is it split?

and what kind of system can be created that isn't complete bullshite, pandering to the shite conferences who don't produce anything?

I haven't read the book, but one of the main arguments I've read that come from the book is misleading at best. They say schools are losing on off the bowl appearances but they seem to be only taking into account the money the school gets for its bowl only. Conferences share bowl money, so the schools are getting a share of bowls they aren't in and that cost them nothing. I know this wasn't in the book, but I saw it recently and its UConn. The Fiesta Bowl payout is like $20M, but they only get 1/8 since they share. From what I've seen, they are taking the UConn share which would be 2.5M and subtracting the costs, say 3M, from that total and saying they lost money. But UConn gets a share of all the other Big East bowls, they got the same share of the BCS money last year and every year they've been in the BCS. Also some of the cost, like coaches bonuses, are BS. They would have coaches bonuses regardless

The main problem I see with it. Some people who dont know the truth will actually believe their story. They know the truth but they dont put it in the story so they are lying on purpose.

have you ever seen some of the bonuses they give the assistant ADs, sports information directions, the assistant SID, as well as countless other support staff that had NOTHING to do with the team getting to that particular bowl ? also, look at the sizes of these "official travel parties" that the school foots the bill from airfare to hotel to meals to tickets ... some lists are over 250 people at about $3K a pop .. this is why a lot of schools lose money individually on the individual bowl game ... but, as you say .. when it is all said and done, they rake it in when the conference kitty is pieced up ..

Two of the top teams, not the top two teams.
