York (team owner), speaking after the 49ers were officially eliminated from playoff contention with a 25-17 loss to the St. Louis Rams, said the team will conduct a GM search that will then lead to another head coach. Singletary could be gone before the 49ers' season finale against the Arizona Cardinals next week

They have a good guy there already who is serving as GM just not with the title so hand him the title and let him grab a HC they've done a good job of building that team.

You are the first person to suggest that he didn't want the NFL..

He needs to go. He does not have the right tools to be a HC. He would be a good position coach though.

That sounds eerily familiar and equally not credible.

he has strongly implied he wants to stay in college (specifically at one school) for a long period of time like his Dad did. He has also stated how much he enjoys college athletes.

I feel Mike Singletary would make a better college coach. I hope he goes that route.

Singletary has never been an Niner HC/modus operandi type HC all along, just a bad fit.

Singletary is a Baylor/Teaff come Ditka/Bear LB, and was arguably always a SF Niner "Rebound Guy/Transitional" HC all along, just there to instill some toughness?

An offensively proficient HC is what SF wants and will seek, a somewhat left coast return to passing, like Seattle and St.Louis have aspired the last fifteen years, and what SF needs to regain Walsh-esque glory?

Besides, Singletary has lost too many close games this year, and had too many insubordinate flare-ups to save face at this point. He's reached the babies and bitches on his roster as best he could..time for a new guy and approach to attempt maximize them here forward.

And I agree, his toughness and bark are at the NFL level, but his X&O HC'ing is more at the collegiate level.

If Singeltary doesn't literally pull his pants down again and tell somebody to kiss his arse on the way out, then I have lost all respect for him.

I would love to see him in the college game. I would have concerns he might be too conservative in his x and o's. I really hate to make the comparison because it will seem racially inspired. but honestly he reminds me of Croom. He may have too much dignity to be successful as a head coach.

Tommy Bowden is just a placeholder...point is those clamoring hard for Les' departure may not like the aftermath. LSU hasn't shown anything close to a propensity to go out and get a superstar.

<and this isn't an endorsement of Les in any way>
