Lost by 1 point in the first game of the season to the 49er's, reeled off 7 straight wins, beat the defending AFC Champion Broncos 42-0, finished 10-6 and missed the playoffs.

That was 1990. The year Bobby held out and fricked the Saints for years by making Finks trade for Steve Walsh.

I may constantly forget the year, but I will never forget listening to Jim and Archie on the radio. Despite the Dome Patrol totally shutting down Montana, Rice, and company, the game was still in doubt because Fourcade ( ) could not get the Saints in the end zone and settled for 4 FGs.

Finally, with little time on the clock, Montana began to methodically march the Niners down for the winning FG. In my nightmares I still hear Archie saying in shell-shocked horror: "I don't believe it, I don't believe it..."

Unlike some on this board I'm no Hebert worshipper simply because he is a coonass. But to be fair, Finks fricked him first.

He made the worst trade in NFL history b/c somebody was holding a gun to his head?

I hated how back then every time the Saints got inside the 40 they ran three times up the middle and set up the FG.

That was my first Saints game ever. I remember Dave Waymer intercepting Elway right in front of us. I was so jazzed that night. 11 flipping years old

I was at the game too. I never dreamed the Saints would lose their next 3 and miss the playoffs. Oh, the days of collapsing and waiting for the disaster to happen as it always did. Now the Bengals and Lions can enjoy that.

I think the dome was chanting "42......42.....42..." right before that TD. So fun

Thanks for that recap. I was there and remember seeing Gray coming to our endzone for that return.

We lost quite a few close ones to the 49ers in the 80's and maybe the early 90's. Printed off the list some years ago.
