Jason Garrett: Lucky or Legit?

Hard to judge anyone after only 4 games. Josh McDoucheils won like his first 6 games as HC and has lost like 16 out of 19 or something since then.
Not making any sweeping judgements on JG yet, but do you think he's legit or just lucky so far?
3-1 record and one dumbass Roy Williams fumble from being 4-0.
To me he appears to have the players attention and they are playing with more focus and discipline than they have before. His play calling has become better somehow. I don't know if that is a product of adjusting things to fit John Kitna, or what, but the offense is better. The defense still sucks but they are at least fighting out there.
I think I'm willing to give JG the reigns for a 3-year contract. Jerry and JG need to go out and find a great DC to run the defense. and rebuild the offensive and defensive lines. Let JG mold the team into the image he wants.
I could be wrong and he could just be lucky, but based on what I've seen so far, I have to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Mostly the latter but some of the former. Then again, name me a successful NFL HC whom isn't a lil lucky from time-to-time.
If the team keeps up its current level of play and intensity, Garrett simply has to be the HC going into next season. Just need a brand new DC to go along with him.

Legit and in addition will benefit from the uncertainty of the CBA. Jones will not want to gamble on a big name coach for next year. Especially now that Garrett is doing pretty well. He'll give JG the 3 yr deal as see if it works out.

Find out next year.
He desereves and will get his shot next year. Lucky for the Cowboys. I was looking forward to the debacle that was going to be there HC search.

Why does he deserve it? If your only basing it off the last four games then sure. But if you look at the last three years he's been a overpaid hack if an OC IMO.

Cowboy lover I assume? He has been around a while.
Believe me, you did not want a coaching search. Jerry has made that job as attractive as the Raider job.

If your comparing him to Lane Kiffen and Josh McDaniels yeah. Anybody else, no.

Those 2 probably would not have taken the Cowboy job. Well Kiffen maybe. At the time he took the Raider job.
You cannot be delusional enough to think many or any legitimate coaching candidates take the Cowboy job seriously? When Parcells left so did any chance for the Cowboys. It will take another MIRACLE move from a guy like Parcells to give that team hope. Only someone that strong can put Jerry back in the office writing checks where he belongs. Sad really. You have an owner who is willing to do anything money wise but refuses to stop tripping over his own pud when it comes to the GM role.

His post-game locker room talk showed me all I needed to see. The players believe in him, play hard for him, and are winning for him. As of right now, he's legit. That's all you can ask of a coach.

I disagree with both of those statements.
It is still a top notch job, that pays like one, and a coach would be inheriting a pretty talented team.

Agree whole heartedly with that one. And that is part of the reason I can barely watch the team I rooted for my entire life, and truly wish I was not a Cowboys fan. That and we have a sandbagging head coach.

I disagree. NFL's equivalent to the Yankees. Including media pressure.

I agree. It will pay well, but so will others. No shame in being a top notch coordinator for another year and waiting for a better job.

pretty talented team.
Agree.. Somewhat. BUT until you have a QB who can do it in the clutch??? But that needs coaching. It is a catch 22. The whole damn franchise is a catch 22.

Every team in the NFL is talented. The difference in talent is minimal between the best and worst teams every year. Coaching, sharp personnel moves and injuries luck makes the major difference. IMO, coaching is more important than ever before in the NFL. Its not like the old days where you could throw in Barry Switzer off the street and still maul everyone.

I think what you're seeing now is the raw talent we've said the Cowboys have since the off season coupled with a coach that appears to give a shite and is liked by them.
It remains to be seen how long that lasts. 6 games in last year, Denver may have thought they had a coach worth keeping. Not looking that way anymore.

Sooo the Yankees arent a top program? Seems like that helps my argument.

Not as well. If a big name guy came to Dallas he could no doubt be the highest paid coach in football. Money talks.

Romo is more than servicable. And it could be coaching. But there are only a few truly great qbs in the league anyways, so I think that is a wash.

Oh absolutely. But it is just different. Yankees can just spend and spend. No salary cap. And owner/management are VERY hands on but historically not incompetent.

Yeah but just for a year then the next "highest paid coach" would get signed, and you would be stuck in Dallas with Jerry.

Serviceable does not cut it. Unless you can run the ball like the 98-99 Broncos. Not when you are talking about deep playoff runs. And Romo at times CAN cost you games.
Sorry. My bitter little coal of Cowboy hate has flared up.

It has been there since 1980 or 81 when I started watching the Oilers instead of Cowboys.

If a holding call is correctly made on the Austin reverse, then the boys are still 3-1.
Still, Garret's done a good job.

O I dont care, I hate being a Cowboys fan and the Cowboys deserve all the flack they get imo.

yeah I think he's legit
you got that right for sure, the offensive line has done little to help what they seemingly unravelled early on this season

Romo's QB rating in the 4th quarter is the 4th highest all time. Every great QB has cost their team playoff games at some point in their career. Look at Manning, Favre and Brady just as recent examples.
