My grandfather, also a WWII vet, had 7 children and all had 4 or 5 children of their own. I am the youngest of 30 or so grandchildren. Right before my grandfather passed he gave me his Winchester Model 59.
He had some other guns, but of all his grandkids he had one POS who routinely stole from him. fricker is in jail now where he belongs. He stole some guns from my Dad too.
This thread reminds me of this song... LINK

Great story
I was born after both grandfathers had passed so I never got to experience this bonding. Thats a nice shotgun with more sentimental value than anyone could imagine.

Nice story.
I have a few guns and fact I could shoot 1 every day of a month and never shoot the same one twice in that month.
Of all the guns I have, I had inherited 2. The first one is a 1897 double barral shotgun that had put food on the table for my wifes great grandfather's family. Was told by Father n law the history of it. Now that he has passed, every time I pick it up I thing about him as if it was yesterday.
The second one I have is a 1972 Browning sweetsixteen that was my fathers. He had said that he was going to give it to me one day. Well he passed away and then came Katrina. One of my brothers had it and he had came to my house at the time. At that time, he gave it to me.
From there I had told my son and son n law who ever has my first grandson will get there pick out of the 2 guns I hold close to my heart.
My first Grandson was born back in Aug of this year!

My grandfather died when I was 6. He left me his pre WWII browning belgium 12 gauge. Gave it to my son.

Neat. My similar story is that when my grandpa (mom's side) died, I got his bow--an old Browning Accelerator. After a few years I found out the backstory on the bow. My dad owned the bow and sold it to my grandpa. But before selling it, dad killed his first bow buck with it-which, despite being smaller than his other mounts, is still hanging in his living room. My parents divorced when I was young, long before any of this transpired, so dad didn't realize that I had the bow. And, he doesn't know that I'm in the process of taking all the camo tape off (the bow is pristine underneath). I'll restore it to new condition and give it back to my dad to hang above that deer.
Also, my dad sold my grandpa the accelerator because he bought a browning drake flightmaster that he used for several years and then passed down to me. I used it to get my first bow kill when I was 19-a small six. I still have it.

When I read the topic I automatically thought about my g-pa giving me his 16 gauge double barrel. Nice story man. And I def will be passing the 16 he gave me to my boy

I never met either one of my Grandpa's.
But yours sounds like a pretty cool dude.

My favorite thing in the world is a 1930's era .22 remington target master rife that belonged to my grandfather. I found it about 10 years after he died forgotten in the attic of my grandmothers house. Sharp shootin little gun

Is that .22 a single shot? Cause my grandma (yes, sounds weird) had one that was a single shot and she shot it in competitions back in the 40's.
