These things seem like such a good idea, does anybody know why they have been abandoned?

Why don't we see these anymore? Anybody know why?

Man way before my time, but those look awesome. I really like the popcorn megaphone also. Would be great if they brought both those back...

Popcorn came in these. When you were done, you could turn them into a megaphone.

I have one of these

I saw one on Ebay a few years ago that went for about $35. I wish I would have bid on it.

"Ding Ding the Singing Bird" was a vendor back then, but I thought he sold something else, like peanuts maybe. He used to sing on a no-budget Saturday night show on UHF channel 26 called "New Orleans Night People". It was sponsored by water bed king Kagan's Korner.

The idea of buying a freshly drafted beer right from the keg appeals to me.

You don't think that the keg backpack was a money maker?

I think one thing that would be a problem today is difficulty in quantity control. The beerman could sell a few beers "off the books" and keep the money for himself.

They probably counted cups. Unless the vendor was refilling friends or reusing cups, he probably couldn't steal much beer.

Would you post pics of the reverse side, please? I'd also like to see the piece as if it were ready to receive popcorn.

I remember those back packs. But I also remember the fights too. My earliest memory of a Saints game at Tulane stadium involved a fight between the teams on the fields. There was always a fight somewhere in that stadium.

Conrad Dobler was one mean SOB! Did anyone else go try pulling players' chinstraps while they walked back to the locker room at halftime?

I always wanted one of those dixie beer backpacks. Some of my memories:
- beer back packs
- Tom Dempsey kick (I was there)
- Billy Kilmer/no chin strap
- being a boy scout usher for saints and Tulane
- parking cars at my grandparent's house on Versailles Blvd

Great thread guys - many thanks
It stirs up memories that may have otherwise been left untapped. The popcorn box/megaphone picture brought back the memory of that loud and clear.

I heard that many people left Tulane Stadium for home before Dempsey's Mighty Kick to Glory.

Is that true?

My Mom told me she and my Dad did.
He would never admit it.

Jax Beeah Man Hee-yahhh !!!

I remember going to games at Tulane Stadium with my Dad. Walking up the ramps from Claiborne, past the large shrubs, smelling cigars, men with hats, etc. Peeing behind the columns because the Men's room line was too long :)
Too bad we missed Dempsey's kick on 11/8/70 and were walking down the ramp, but we were able to race back up to see the stadium in absolute bedlam...
