From a talent standpoint, you are correct.

But, it's foolish to ignore the intangibles like leadership.

By all accounts, Sheppard is the leader of the defense. I'm not sure who will step into that role.

Peterson and Nevis will go down as 2 of the best at their position in university history. Shep is right there, but he is the 3rd best player on the defense and is easiest one to replace of the 3(not trying to down play it.....All 3 were great Tigers. The other 2 more important to the team overall, imo).

I guess you can call him the "leader of the D" cause he made all the calls, but that doesnt mean much to me. It's the job of any LB that plays that position.
