LSU and Auburn rankings if Bama beats Auburn...

I have heard numerous places that Auburn will likely stay ahead of LSU in the rankings should Bama beat Auburn and LSU beat Arkansas leaving both teams at 11-1. The rationale people use is that Auburn won the head-to-head matchup. However, doesn't that go out the window Auburn's loss being to Bama. It would be LSU lost to Auburn, Bama lost to LSU, Auburn lost to Bama, with all wins occurring for the home team. Shouldn't LSU get credit for beating the team that Auburn lost to just as much as Auburn gets credit for beating LSU? If people want to use a head-to-head matchup, wouldn't that mean that Bama should jump ahead of Auburn with a win in which case those people would also have to rank Bama ahead of LSU?
The point is that teams change through a season and putting one team in front of another simply based upon a head-to-head result really only works for a few weeks after the game. After that, you have to consider the big picture.

Auburn may fall behind LSU with a loss. The argument is that they jump over LSU once they beat SC in the SECCG.
The argument being: 12-1 SEC Champs > 11-1 SECW runner ups.

In the end, we want AU to lose to bama so that the outcome in the SECCG game won't prevent us from going to a BCS game.

Auburn would remain ahead of Bama because Bama has two losses. Auburn may very well end up behind LSU after this week if they loose and we win but will more than likely jump back ahead of us if they win the SECCG.

This is very wrong. If AU loses to Bama then wins the SECCG, AU goes to Sugar Bowl and LSU goes to Orange Bowl. If AU loses to Bama then loses the SECCG, USCe goes to Sugar Bowl and AU goes to Orange Bowl, and LSU left out of BCS bowls all-together. (Same would happen if AU beats Bama but loses SECCG). If AU wins out, then they go to BCS Championship and LSU goes to Sugar.

Wait, why does 2 loss AU go to the Orange Bowl over 1-loss LSU?

That is based on what I heard on one of the radio shows that was interviewing an Orange Bowl "scout" that was at the Bama game. The scout didn't say specifically that AU would go(he couldn't talk specifics about any school) but said that they tend to not penalize schools for losing a conference championship game if they had already beaten the next team inline during the regular season. So if AU loses both games, the next team in line would be LSU but since AU already beat LSU, I took that to mean the Orange Bowl would select AU.

If that happens and LSU beats Arky we would almost assuredly be top 4 in the BCS and I believe that would make them an automatic qualifier.

(a) he is full of shite. 11-1 Kansas went over 11-2 Missouri in 2007 (I can give numerous other examples).
(b) LSU would likely be top 4 of the BCS and the Orange couldn't take Auburn no matter how bad they wanted them.

Well....that may be, but the fact that AU would then have two loses would likely have an adverse impact to our Strength of Schedule, which would make it easier for Stanford or Wisconsin to pass us.

Why would the Orange pick a two loss AU team over a one loss (assuming we beat Arky) and higher ranked LSU team?
ETA: nevermind..i see its been covered

I will definetly differ to you Matt. I know you follow it much more closely than I do!

On the computers we would probably pull ahead or get very close. With the voters we would stay behind. I don't know how this would affect the BCS with the new formula they use.

Hey dickhead, you were doing fine until the "Son" moment. You don't know me well enough to be referring to me with the word "Son". No one but my parents and grandparents call me son, and since I am in my 30s they don't even do that very often. You could have easily stated your opinion (after all it is just as valid as the rest that have been posted), just don't be a dick. And, yes, a little off handed comment like calling someone "Son" interjects just enough attitude for you to be considered a dick.
Damn dude. Some people say "son" in place of saying "jack", "dude", "man", etc.
And furthermore, chill the living frick out.

I'd have to disagree on this; I think Auburn drops way down in the Coaches and Harris polls with 2 straight losses, especially coupled with the Camgate controversy. I think LSU is definitely in at 11-1 if Auburn goes 11-2.
On the other hand, at 12-1 with a win over USC, I think it's iffy, probable but opens the door for us to get left out. Maybe 70-30 we go. Remember we no longer have the "we only lost to a team in the BCS title game" factor. The only thing we have in our favor is that we're in the SEC.
If Auburn beats Bama and loses to USC we're out.
