Inspired from another thread... I googled the name of the guy that ran him over. I was shocked to find out he was sentenced to 30 days in jail (only served 14) and fined $175.

as much as I liked watching andolseck play (he was there when I was at LSU), I just don't see where the truckdriver comitted any criminal act and therefore I don't think he should have been sentenced to jail...

don't get me fricking started......dude had coke in his system as well. Cheryl took Capitol Steel to the fricking bank for it, but people shoulda gone to prison for taking a wonderful person away.
The greatest Tiger in my book. No one loved LSU more then Big E.......down to the purple pickup truck.
Spank, it easily should have fallen under Negligent Homicide. Guy was a druggie.

But something else haunts the family, whose lives were once as simple and easy as a crawfish boil.
It is the memory of James Bennett, the driver of the flatbed diesel, walking out of a courtroom five months after the accident, a smile on his face.
Tests found traces of cocaine in Bennett's urine two hours after the tragedy. Witnesses say he had displayed erratic behavior during and after the accident, including failing to apply his brakes until after he had hit Andolsek at an estimated 50 mph.

I thank God that I had the opportunity to meet him. What a waste of a great human being.

Big E was the best man for a mutual friend's wedding. Super guy who love to cater to the kids wanting autographs. Tragic loss.

I still will stand my ground that Eric Andolsek would have taken care of the Fairley guy. I dont care if he was on 268 or what that other guy said.
If someone would have it Hodson a full 2 seconds after he left go of a football, someone would have had hell to pay.

I met Eric at a post season football game in New Iberia along with a host of Thibodaux Tigers. They had a great bunch of kids in Big E's Sr year. But he matured and became one of the greatest Tigers ever to wear the purple and gold. A tragic loss at such a young age. A marvelous talent, and a Tiger through and through. RIP Big E.

This thread really makes me sad guys. I can still see Eric walking by the old gym armory on his way to class in my mind. He was Old School.

Sure is good to see Chase Clement, big E's nephew (Renee's son) performing at a high level. Don't know if anyone has seen Chase in person but he too is a very big man.

Eric was a great Tiger and on his way to the pro bowl. If I'm not mistaken he did not allow a sack his last season with the Lions. Also recall him playing against the Fridge on Thanksgiving Day. Pretty impressive watching block the Fridge.
BTW, Eric started out on the DL with LSU in '84.
Always glad to see you older Tigers (of which I'm one) pass on the Tiger heritage.

Both he and his family...I grew up in Thibodaux and had a friend who lived near the Andolseks. One weekend (must've been an off week), the neighborhood kids heard that Eric was back in town and a bunch of us went over looking for autographs. I still remember running around their house and having a merry old time with a few other kids---we were probably all "strangers" to the family, but they didn't mind one bit.

It's called manslaughter and it carrys a jail sentence if convicted.

I was young when they played at LSU but remember he was awesome. Remember when he was killed and also remember that Ralph Norwood was killed in a car accident soon after that both were great players and both tragic losts but thanks for the memories

Big E's family fought as long as they could in getting this douche bag convicted. They were there for the long hall with this and still kills them today that he did not get sentenced longer. The guy had no remorse.

Then married KM and left town and totally turned her back on the Andolsek family. That is all I am going to say. That in itself is another story!

Images of Andolsek and Chris Speilman at midfield during coin toss in September of 1987...and they ended up becoming best of friends.
I was a youngster and saw he and Harvey WIlliams sitting outside the dorms during the '88 SEC Basketball Tourney. Both were gracious and as another poster said, Andolsek was just outstanding with children. What a Tiger.
