My girlfriend from Tennessee is flying into Nola this weekend, and I was hopign to take her to a nice dinner in the french quarter and let her experience New Orleans. I'm from Houston so im really not too familiar with the area and what's highly thought of, and i've been looking at the dining guide on the website, but i'd thought i'd ask for y'alls opinions.

Would really appreciate the help.

atmosphere doesn't really matter,

and im not lookin to go on a cheap date, but that doesn't necessarily mean im wanting to empty the wallet.

Take a cab to Clancy's or Commanders.

Commanders is always my first thought...then a nice walk down to the Coquette bar for (a second) dessert and cocktails...then if you are feeling frisky, Balcony Bar and Bulldog...

(non dick post below)

i'd say commander's because it's my favorite and it's not totally ridiculously expensive and not totally off the wall.

Took my girlfriend (now wife) to K-Paul's many years ago. She's a picky eater and she read the menu and couldn't find a single thing that didn't have an ingredient that she either didn't recognize or didn't like.

So..... she asked the waitress if they could make her a ham and cheese sandwich. I almost dumped her on the spot.

I eventually talked her into a shrimp poboy, which she loved. No way I was going to let her order something that wasn't "New Orleansy"...

I second Commanders for the grand expierence of it all.
If you want to stay in the quarter, the Pelican Club or Muriels would be a great meal for a little less money.

Commander's (THE New Orleans experience)
Antoine's (A true New Orleans fine-dining place, the oldest restaurant in the country if I remember correctly)
Palace Cafe
Mr. B's
Jacque-Imo's
Patois
Clancy's
K-Paul's

Most of the other suggestions are people fricking with you.

Dickie Brennan's in the quarter is also a good choice.
