benne wafer must be an Carolina type thing. Not real southern food.

Benne is a seed, it is either the same or very, very similar to sesame seeds.Benne wafer is a lot like a praline.
Yes, it and hoppin John are a Charleston thing.

Never heard of a benne wafer and had no clue on chitlins and maw.
