report on Dak Prescott, QB Haughton

I've never seen him play so take this for what it's worth.
I had a long conversation with a HS FB coach who lost to Haughton this year and has seen him play a lot over the last 2 years. I'm not gonna tell you the coach's name but I've known him for years and I respect his opinion.
Summary:
Dak is not a real dual threat QB. He has a strong arm and throws a good deep ball but he's not that fast nor agile in avoiding the rush.
Dak has big rushing yards because he's large for a HS QB and he has a good offensive line. He also has good receivers.
Projection: He'll be an OK backup QB by SEC standards and may start for Miss. State if they have injury problems.
His conclusion: "Think of a slower version of Jordan Jefferson."

So he's about as good of a QB as Stephen Hawking?

I'll take it for what it's worth....BS. Don't know who this coach is but he can't be a very good one.
Maybe you should get your hands on some of Haughton's video. They film every game, then you won't be listening to this Bshite.
He made a run against Benton's D Friday night that would remind you of a very good QB that just beat us.
He will start @ Miss State and I'll laugh then as I do now with all the haven't seen him play analyst. MARK IT...

Mullen likes him as a dual threat guy, and he saw two very good ones at Florida. I believe he recruited Newton there and at MSU.

Now Prescott is a Cam clone?

I realize you have already edited your post once. But could you come again in English. I have no idea what that sentence means.

I'll try to translate for you. You and your coach friend don't know what the hell you are talking about.

Judging by your name ill assume you are biased...

Ok professor. Translation: your coach friend probaby really has only seen him play twice in two years. The two games that Haughton and Dak beat him and he does't take wel to getting his arse kicked; so he trashed the kid that Beat him.

I saw him play last year against airline. He is the 2nd best hs qb I've ever seen in person behind John David Booty. He reminds me of Chris Leak.

Some bias. Just a fan of the game. I can say that I've watched him play seven games this year and know what I see; not what I hear. You can judg my bias if you will, time will come when you and others on this board will get to judge Dak's talent

Your friend may be a very fine coach, but I do disagree with him on some points.
Dak is not "duel threat" in the sense of a Pat White or Denard Robinson, but more along the lines of a Tebow. Dak is an excellent short yardage runner because he has very good vision. His speed is not amazing, but he sees the hole very well and his cuts are very well timed.
His pocket presence may be his strong point. Moves very good in the pocket and is very aware of pressure. He has big rushing yards because he runs a lot and is good at it.
He does have good receivers, but why is that held against him?? He still has to put it where they can catch it. I for one believe he makes them as good as they are.
Ask your friend one more question, would he trade his QB for Dak Prescott??

Dak is a perfect fit for MSU's spread offense under Mullen. From what I have been reading on the kid he is a class act, a leader, and is putting up big numbers for one of the top teams in 4A in Louisiana.

His answer would be Yes.
But that wasn't the question. Mine was "Will he be a starting QB in the SEC?"
The answer was No. He's too slow.

Nothing against the kid, but his competition is complete shite. Haughton is beating up on Shreveport teams that are just bad. We'll see what happens in the playoffs, but I would be surprised to see Haughton even flirt with making it to the Dome. Here are their opponents so far:
5A Airline: 3-5
4A Minden: 5-3
4A Woodlawn: 2-6
4A West Ouachita: 1-7
4A Northwood: 3-5
4A Fair Park 1-7
4A Huntington 4-4
4A Benton 3-5
4A Bossier 4-4
4A Parkway 8-0
I wish them luck, but they aren't a top contender imo. In fact, right now they are flirting with having to play Neville in the first round. If that happens, I'm calling it now, Haughton goes out in the first round.

I would agree that most of the competition has not been the best; but Dak has only played 2 quarters in each game except he played into the 3rd qtr. last Friday against Benton.
Haughton is avg. 50 pts gm vs. 12 pt avg. with most of the opponents scoring coming on the 2nd 3rd string players. Haughton put up 84 against Huntington and could have scored 120 if starters had stayed in the game.
This isn't the same 1 to 2 games into the playoff team. Not saying they will be in the Dome, but have best team I've ever seen at Haughton and I was around in '77 when we won the title and 78 when we almost won it.
Have you actually seen them play?

He was a college asst coach for 15 years and did extensive recruiting. He's been a HS coach for 20 years. I trust his judgment more than posters who cannot construct a coherent sentence. And apparently, 11 of the 12 SEC coaching staffs agree with his assessment since they didn't offer him a scholarship.
