The hate for ESPN...

I understand a lot of the feelings people have for ESPN. They do trumpet themselves as something different than what they really are. They are only a "shill" for things that get them ratings, which in turn get them advertising dollars. Plain and simple, no more no less.
They talk about Favre, LeBron, Tiger, Yanks/Sox, the Patriots, or whatever the flavor of the year may be ad nauseum, because people watch.
We get sick of it because most of us are more than the average sports fan. We are used to blogs and talk radio. ESPN is trying to catch the eye of the casual sports fan.
And sorry guys, stories and airtime devoted to a lot of the subjects we discuss here dont bring in money for a major media outlet like ESPN. Most of the time, stories about LSU, positive or negative, don't appeal to anyone outside of this state.
Who do they want? The 4 million in Louisiana or the 20 million in SoCal with USC plastered all over their car?

And all of this is probably Germans, stating the obvious, blah blah. But a lot of people still come in here asking "why dont they talk about X" or "how come it's all Favre, all the time" or something to that effect, when there seems to be a clear answer as to why.

The only national media outlets that actually do a good job with sports coverage are S.I. and Yahoo!. The rest are absolute garbage.

Is your point that ESPN repeats segments as much as the MSB repeats this discussion?

Something like that...

You either understand that media is a business or you don't... I can't imagine there is any hope for the morons who can't comprehend the concept.

The hate comes from ESPN dominating the "sports information" arena for so many years while holding itself out to be some sort of sterile reporter of news while that's not the case at all. ESPN is the story much of the time. It is too intertwined w/ the subject matter and is not shy about eschewing basic journalistic integrity in pursuit of the almighty dollars.
It reports and promotes stories that involve subjects it covers or broadcasts to generate "buzz." For example: for years prior to its more widespread broadcast deals w/ conferences in college football, ESPN promoted and seemed to have its analysts by and large rank teams from the conferences it covered more highly in order to generate buzz.
Also, those nauseating stories like Favre, LeBron, Tiger, Tebow, etc. are offensive to avid sports fans on this site and across the country because they are designed, not for them, but to attract the bane of the avid sports fan's existence--"the casual fan." You see, ESPN knew for years that they had avid sports fans by the balls b/c we were gonna watch regardless; all the while they shite on us w/ those tired old stories to attract that moronic casual fan. Now there's finally competition as the leagues are providing us w/ their own networks w/ much more "avid-fan-friendly" coverage. These networks are still, however, fledgling for the most part and don't provide nearly the mainstream accessibility that the ESPN brand does.
Finally, it's really annoying that a network so vast and powerful has so many incompetent, uninteresting, annoying, and often downright stupid people working for them. It seems for every great analyst/commentator (Van Pelt) there's 10-20 Cowherds and Baylesses. If NFL and MLB Networks can pull interesting, thoughtful, insightful, and agreeable on-air talent, why does ESPN insist on subjecting us to the inane and insane drivel from these fricking moronic schmucks?

they don't have enough time for that, what with their hatred of LSU and all

I hate them because they have 2 unattractive female anchors on during the day.

i find ESPN Radio is a lot better than ESPN's TV shows. I enjoy listening to SVP and doug gottlieb and sometimes even cowherd is alright

I'm a sports fan without ESPN, and life is great.
I got rid of cable in January and I haven't missed it.
ESPN ruins the enjoyment of sports for the avid fan.
I watch pirated streams of the games that I want to watch and I find that the commentary is even acceptable because I haven't been hearing the same shite day in and day out on shows like PTI, ATH, SportsCenter, etc.
ESPN is great at broadcasting games. All the other stuff is utter crap. It's E! News gossip type crap targeted at men Stop watching that crap and your enjoyment of sports will be much higher.

i do that without getting rid of the channel lol. i like watching their games in HD. but if a sports talk show is on i'll just go find something else to watch on discovery, history, or netflix. or download other shows

Yeah, it's pretty easy to avoid all those shows and the filler BS and just watch the games.

I love ESPN. Just don't want to hear about Favre texting bitches or Tiger Screwing Bitches. I don't care what those guys do in their personal lives. Only want to hear about what do they on the field, golf course, basetball court, etc.
