The Art of War - Sun Tzu

My Dad mentioned this the other day, and after looking into it, I agree! Les Miles appears to be a student of "The Art of War" - It's a book written in the 6th century B.C. - what most people call "luck" could simply be strategy....
"Though effective, appear to be ineffective"...."Lure them in with the prospect of gain, take them by confusion"....

I won't assert that you haven't read The Art of War. However, I would like to point out that the majority of the work (those passages included) concern when and where to enter into battle, as well as trying to get your enemy to attack you when they should not.
Being football games are pre-scheduled, the overwhelming majority of The Art of War is not applicable.
And most importantly, Miles is an idiot, so let's please try not to give him more credit than he deserves

Miles' goofiness lures opposing coaches into a false sense of security.

But wouldn't that be just like Miles? To apply the inapplicable?
Miles is writing the revised version of Art of War.

At what point do we start thinking that why is it that this person alone has all this luck. Are there perhaps other factors that we have trivialized or marginalized , that might actually be the reason why he is successful?
Luck (as calls during games or during the season) evens out eventually. If someone is able to succeed , and if that success rate is higher than that dictated by luck , isn't it logical that we might have not factored in everything or that we are just wrong about it?
"Luck is what competitors attribute to your hard work"

Let me start by saying this thread is ridiculous. Let's try to keep that in mind. That being said, I take issue with this:
You are taking it too literally. Based on your analysis none of The Art of War is valuable because none of us are fighting feudalism in the China. The reason this book is still popular is because people take certain aspects of it and apply the theories to present situations. For example, just because you are attempting to sway a board meeting (which was set at a scheduled time) doesn't mean you can't "know your enemy" or "be deceptive."

Do you really truly think that Les Miles has read "The Art of War" or even knows that such a book even exists?

Though I don't know Miles personally , given his background (academia) and where he is right now (near the pinnacle of his profession), I would not be surprised if he could quote it!
If someone looks/talks like Kramer and works/succeeds like Jack Welch you would rather believe he is Kramer in real life and ignore the measurable success part of it!!!

Given the stupidity evidenced by this...
It's pretty hard to give this any credence..
