It's not bro science. The average person who weighs 300 pds will lose weight at 2500 calories. Eventually his body is going to adapt to the calorie deficit and weight loss will stall . He will have to create a greater deficit for weight loss to resume. Fast foward to a 300 pd guy who starts his weight loss journey at 1500 calories. What does he do when his body adapts to this calorie deficit?

Show me the scientific studies that show this otherwise it is broscience.

The weekend was too much fun, as expected, but I know I'm in good range.
I obviously missed allot of activity in here this weekend. I'll need to read and catch up.

You want a scientific study that shows you wont lose weight forever at the same deficit???

No. That is obvious, the less you weigh the less calories you burn.
I want a scientific study that says eating 1500 calories will 'wreck your metabolism'. The fact is it won't. You have to very, very little to wreck your metabolism. 1500 is still plenty of food for your body to work through, regardless of your size.
My point of my rant the other day was that everyone's body is different. Some people have to a ton to put on weight, some don't. My roommate and I have very opposite issues with weight; he's extremely skinny and has a really difficult time putting on weight. The only time he's put on any weight at all was when he was ingesting almost 6000 calories per day, and through that bulk phase he never lost his abs even ingesting that much. I, on the other hand, have to eat very little to put on weight. My point was that it's not a perfect science, no two bodies are quite the same. You've obviously learned how yours works and are doing a fantastic job getting lean and staying fit, and that's commendable and I applaud you for it, but I don't think I agree with everything you say.
Anywho, I'm in the same boat as you bbrou.. way too much partying lately. I need to buckle down.

Maybe wreck was the wrong word. But a 300 pound person who diets at 1500 calories will experience some metabolic slowdown. Wouldnt you say you are an example of this Hulk? Didnt you say that you will gain weight eating 1800 calories?

Yes, above 1800 or 1900 I have problems losing weight, and can even gain. It's a slippery slope. I eat at 1800 now because I'm exercising 4-5 days a week but if I don't get my exercise in I'm putting weight on at this range. However, my point wasn't to be an example of metabolic slowdown, it was

I was mulling it over in my head when I posted about my problems with caloric intake, and thought maybe.. but I don't think so. I think I just naturally am an easy gainer.

I agree. Do you think the reason that you can actually gain weight at 1800 calories is due to you being to aggressive in cutting calories in the past?

Nah. I thought so for a while, but I really don't feel like that so little of calories that it would cause a metabolic slowdown.
that being said, I could see where maybe because I've been in a deficit for nearly 3 years now I've had metabolic slowdown. But not from 6 months of 1200-1500 cals/day.

Hulk, how'd you lose the majority of your weight? Keto?
Posted on 9/23/13 at 3:32 pm to thegreatboudini
I did keto for about 9 months. Then switched to Paleo for about a year and a half. Here lately I've just been trying to limit my carbs to ~150g/day.. basically I eat carbs but in moderation. I do fine during the week but weekends...

Hey!
I heard through the grapevine that this is the place to go if you need to lose some weight.
Time to get back to the diet for me!
