I Missed The Game, How'd JJ Look?

I saw the offensive statistics were piss poor, but did JJ show any improvement as Miles stated?

JJ was an excellent game manager. If he can manage the game that well every week LSU will win a lot of games this year.

much improved. we, as lsu fans, just need to get used to a ground and pound game managing offense. most have high expectations of seeing a 45 pt performance. that won't happen unless we return 3 kickoffs for td's.

The D looked old school....meaning dominant, which I was very pleased to see. They will keep us in a lot of games this year. With that being said, the O is garbage. I hate to be negative, but we are gonna SERIOUSLY struggle against a real D.

LSU had less than 300 yards total offense but I don't assign blame to JJ. He is not going to wow anyone at anytime this season but I am convinced the offensive woes fall on the shoulders of the Wizard.
What a piss poor game blame. Throw the freakin ball down field Wizard.

I didn't watch the game live so I was just following the score on my Blackberry. I was a bit upset about all the FGs but, when I got home, I watched it on the DVR.
I thought JJ looked improved and in more control. I was more pleased after I watched the game.
Ridley was getting yards and the Def. was nasty. Nevis got to the hand off and tackled the QB and the FB twice.

...and on the shoulders of our arse kicking defense who got us the ball in THEIR territory all night long. You can only put up so many yards when you start on THEIR 40.

True, but you can put the ball in the end zone.

i can't understand why so many people discount msu's defense. they ARE A REAL D. they had an excellent game plan last night, they tackle very well and they punish our runners. their Dline is stout and their backers and safeties are good. their cb's are not as good, but we didn't challenge them much. i haven't seen bama, but i have seen all of our other sec competition play (ooops, except ole piss) and msu's defense is AS GOOD OR BETTER than all of them, even florida.

He was better, but is still the weak link on this team. Decent is about the best you are going to get from this kid. Thankfully, our defense is very impressive.

he looked more emotional than I can remember. wish they'd let him throw more.

JJ himself was focused and did a good job of what was asked of him. I think we all know the identity of this team so if you have hopes of JJ throwing for 300 yards you need to let that rest. Our coaches have sent the message loud and clear: We dont trust our QB's at all.
Hard to complain about anything when you beat a decent team by 3 TD's, however. But I understand the offensive criticism by some.
The D has me very fired up. If you have to choose a dominant offense with a weak D or a weak O and dominant D, I would take the latter every time. We just might be ok this year.

Yeah, the offense moved the ball well... until it got closer to the goalline, maybe 20-30 yards out. We just need to work on some places that are effective from that range. Further out we can move it, closer in we can pound it. But 15-30 we suck. The Shep toss play is not effective at that range, and it looked like our go to call every time we got there. I think the D just isn't spread out enough for that play to work well from that distance.

This seems contradictory. If JJ is mediocre and tentative (which I think most would agree) how do you blame the staff for not opening it up when they are uncomfortable with him and he with himself? How do you argue they are wasting his talent when there is not much there?
The defense and special teams won that game, with 5 interceptions and starting field position around the opponents own 45, the game shouldn't be close in the 4th Q.

He did not throw 5 interceptions.

I can't argue with you, there.

Finally! Someone who gets it! My friends, the truth is, quarterback progression under Gary Crowton is painfully SLOW at best. Let’s face it, when he first arrived he had a quarterback ready to play. Matt Flynn understood the system and had the mental focus to get the ball to the play makers without much deliberation. Our boy JJ is still struggling with his decision process. The game is still moving entirely too fast for his mind’s eye. His skill at throwing the ball down field are poor at best. For me it's like watching Jamarcus Russell all over again. His progression is PAINFULLY SLOW! But, at least JM had a strong arm.

Best in the nation at 3rd and four completing
2 yd passes. I would blame the coach but he locked on his safety valve without looking at the guy down field.
As long as he doesn't give me that raised eyebrow look after he screws up and the coaches think he's the best, I stand behind him cause he choose LSU.

Honestly, it was hard to tell last night. With the field position the defense was giving the offense, I think I could have quaterbacked LSU last night.
