scenario #2. Take a job in shreveport (oil field) where i have grown up, where family and friends are there and pay is a little less and less of a chance to move up or move around jobs

depends on how important being around famliy is..I would rather make less money and be close to family.........others might prefer to be as far from family as possible.....

I've lived at least 8-10 hours from family since I was 19. It's good, makes you grow up and be responsible. Only regret is that I would have liked being closer when my children were growing up. I think they would have benefitted from being close to grandparents & cousins. We always loaded up everything and had Christmas with the family until they got in high school - took a lot of planning, but we managed. Good luck whatever you end up doing!

Moving hours away from family for graduate school was one of the smartest decisions of my life. Take that for what it's worth. I just feel every man should go out and experience the world completely on their own before they settle down.
