About people at the game holding up signs and standing while waiving their arms as distractions to people behind them and having no purpose, citing a lack of contribution to the distractions that give a home field its advantage. The fact that holding a sign in front of someone's face is unnecessary and rude isn't debate worthy, but arguing that movement by fans has no place at games as a nuisance seems prudish. Thoughts?

Yeah, standing up and blocking people while the game is being played is pretty rude, unless most of the people in the section are already standing up, then you're the idiot that's sitting down.

What an idiot. This is the same guy who last year towards the end of the season said that the Saints need to stop running the screen pass because they're terrible at it. Don't listen to anything he says. You'll be a better man for it.

Once again all our noise resulted in no real penalties or advantage that I could detect. The current NFL teams and equipment has gotten so advanced that the days of 5 false start penalties seem over.

I'm not losing my voice any more.

Signs are pretty dumb, I mean its only for self promotion and it does hinder the people behind you, but moving around during the game? Are we suppose to be zombies during the game? I love when everyone, even my 80 year old grandpa dances and gets "crunk"

Tommy Tucker knows absolutely nothing about football... he admits it.

i think he just says stuff like that to get the 10 people listening to call in and make conversation.

Bob Deljourno (sp?) is the same way.
except that when people call in, he denies saying what he said or accuses them of misinterpreting what he said.

my advice: burn yourself a CD and listen to it on your morning and night drives...

Maybe not false starts, but it forces them to use silent counts and makes it harder to audible at the line. Any advantage, however miniscule it may seem, is still an advantage.

It depends on where you're sitting and the situation. For years there's this one douchebag who sits directly in front of me about 4 rows ahead of me who just stands up in random situations and is looking around at the people behind him, like he's looking for somebody to have a conversation with. Or he's putting his hands up and nodding at them like "hell yeah." Yeah, dickhead, sit the frick down and turn around and watch the game.

And then there was the family that was standing up at the row in front of me waving like crazy. Then like a minute later, the mom asks me for my cell phone because she wants to call the people in the upper level they're waving at because they can't see them.

I don't mind standing up during big moments. Hell, I don't mind standing up the entire game. I did that at the Super Bowl. But there are a lot of stupid reasons why you have to stand up in the dome.

a lot of it is internal.

If you don't think we put more pressure on their offense by being loud, i dont know what to say.

Messing up their concentration is the main thing. Whether it be the QB trying to read the defensive coverage, to the WR's concentrating on catching the ball, to even the coach trying to devise a scheme to win the game.

home field advantage isnt some made up thing.

shoot, the Vikings know better than any.. they used to put speakers behind the visiting team bench and piped in loud arse music on defense.

I was listening to this on my way home from BR. He was saying that signs have no effect on the other team and are annoying for other fans in the section. People with signs just want to try to get on TV. Stop bringing them in and blocking the view of fans.

He is all for clapping, stomping, screaming all while standing. He was saying that it is stupid for people to stand up and wave their arms in the air because it does nothing to create noise for the 12th man.

Both points are true. Thing is, its become a tradition whenever a game is nationally televised. Unfortunately, some people just want to be on tv.

And sadly, most of these people don't understand that what they see in the stadium isn't what we're seeing. They see you in the stadium. You weren't on NBC, moron. I've had people ask me more than once if I saw them on TV at home because they made it on the Superdome bigscreen.

Super Bowl-dom to New Orleans is a new thing. Saints fans have an opportunity to show the world we are the classiest football fans in America. Like food and friendliness football is a part of Louisiana culture. We need to show we are the classiest fans - period.

Yeah, the players just wave for noise cause they want you to lose your voice. They just like to hear it they don't actually think it helps. If you don't want to yell don't but why try and justify it?

i actually agree with him-- though i listened to him and he seems to have a vagina...people with "signs" are lame and hes right that most people that do it are the losers that are just trying to get on T.V.-----i say ban the signs altogether....it distracts from people behind you that pay good money for seats.

that's not even close to what he said. his point that standing up and holding a sign, waving your hands or object, or generally standing up making no noise is pointless and just blocks the person behind you. instead, stand up and yell and clap making more noise to assist the home team. he never said that movement by fans has no place at games.

That's exactly what he said. He also said the terrible towel has no place at games because they are distracting to the people behind you.

Unless you're sitting directly behind the opposing bench and your sign features a photo of Favre's wife in a compromising position with a well-endowed great dane, signs are useless.
