I am kind of worried of a team shredding us up with the option, because this play must work for our offense in practice for us to use it so much

We run the option 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage instead of down the line of scrimmage.

It works great for other teams. May be he thinks some one will block so it can work.

Jordan Jefferson has skills that i just dont understand why we dont use better.

Jordan jefferson should be a rollout qb given the option to tuck it.

If we are going to run him put him in situations where it is just a run and he picks up the yards he can get and go back to the huddle. QB draws from the shotgun. Roll Outs.

I dont remember us throwing a crossing pattern or 10 to 15 yard hook or many rb screens out of the backfield.

RB screens are confidence builders to a qb and help get in a rhythem.

I really dont want LSU to run the option. We have 2 and only 2 experienced and capable qb's this year and you are risking getting our current starter hurt.

What ever happenned to a toss quick sweep and flares from the backfield.

Our offense has many weapons and qb is the key to unlocking the door.

Excellent diagnosis of what our offense should consist of. I agree 100%.

I have no idea why Crowton does not have plays (or maybe he does have them and doesn't call them) that are low-risk and emphasize our skill player's speed and athleticism.

RB screens- build JJ's confidence and get him into a rhythym early in the game. I can't remember the last time we ran a screen.

WR bubble screens- Like we used to run with Josh Reed back in the day. Terrance Tolliver and Reuben Randle are big guys. Line up in trips, toss it to Shepard and let TT and RR match block. VT showed how effective this can be against Boise St. Especially against undersized corners and safeties.

QB Draw- Don't know why we don't run this anymore. Should be run 3-4 times a game.

Flares- Think of them as extended hand-offs. If our O-line is struggling to open up holes, get our RB's out in space.

Since I've worked overtime the last two years trying to find positives in a sea of absurdities I'll try to put a positive spin on it:

Crowton continues to have JJ run options to set up some HR play down the road.

That's the best I can do.

I don't appreciate the negativity brought about by pointing out our option calls. You are not a true LSU fan because of this.

LMAO at you thinking you know more than the coaches.

Blah blah blah

The thing that gets me is that on my high school team, if we weren't able to execute a play correctly, our coach would yell at us, scrap the play from the playbook, then make us feel guilty because the thought of how badass the play could have been gave him a hard-on.

Crossed my mind also, but the payoff had better work and be work all the setups that we are witnessing

Yeah because homerun plays are a dime-a-dozen for LSU's offense these days. We can't use 10% of our allotted to set up some mythical homerun play that never occurs. Just run something that works.

Crowton must be too stubborn to admit the option doesn't work and isn't the right play for JJ to run. This is a good example of why he is such a terrible OC.

I feel ill everytime they run the option. As people have pointed out, it's not run correctly, isn't very effective, and puts the quarterback at too much risk. I saw us run it once last year with Jarrett Lee at quarterback-he looked about as agile as a pregnant cow, and almost got his head taken off. Although, I think the play actually gained more yards than usual.

I would also like to know how challenging it is for the O-line to execute.

It's not the o line's fault. IMO JJ is simply not initially showing patientce to draw the defense in forcing a decision point: pitch or run. He's getting caught in no-mans-land and the play gets blown up. Also I don't think JJ has the physical skills to run the option effectively. Compare JJ's physical skills to "option" QBs. Option QBs have a much quicker first step and a stature closer to a running back. JJ best bet IMO is to stay in the pocket and prefect his passing skills.

Everyone, including JJ, knows this except Crowton

I had a case of the blistering red arse when he called that play. Given the opportunity, Crowton would run the option with Dan Marino or Troy "Concussion" Aikman.

does anyone have JJ's YPC on option plays from the UNC game?

The read option where he either hands it off or runs isn't too bad. I take issue with the pitch option. That play is truly awful. Crowton called the option against Ole Miss when JJ had a gimp leg.

If LSU knew how to run it effectively, I'd prepare for it. Why don't they run a wild cat or something that would at least make the opposing defense go .

This is one of the big things left out of the game plan (for the most part) that gets me ticked.

But, in Crowton's defense (can't beleive I am doing that), JJ has some kind of aversion to executing this correctly. My theory is that he is gun shy to get a pick 6, so he tenses up and does not throw this nearly as well as he should. This is an area of the Flynn-led offense that was overlooked. He has great touch and timing on the screen plays and bubble screens, which opened up the offense by forcing the LB's and DB's to play us differently.
