UNC can't really afford to play them. If it's deemed that Carolina played ineligible players, then that game gets forfeited.

Because of the Austin situation, there entire 2009 season is currently in jeopardy. Don't want to make it two in a row.

Besides, it's not like they'll go winless. They still get to play Duke and William & Mary.

nope, they wont want to vacate wins. Also, you have other players you have to be accountable to. So playing them is saying you don't care about a loss. You can't just tell their backups, well if we play you we lose.

Any win would be vacated actually. LSU would still have a loss.

No.

1) They will forfeit any wins in the games those players were involved

2) They send a horrible message to not only the NCAA but their players who worked hard

3) The NCAA will come down hard on them with penalties for basically saying, "I don't care what they did, I just want to win" knowing the risk...

Agreed. You don't knowingly play someone caught up in an NCAA investigation. It would be as if North Carolina was thumbing its nose at the NCAA and the NCAA may consider same when handing down sanctions.

This is UNC, not USC. UNC does have some honorable traits compared to the school south of downtown L.A.

It's the other way around. They won't play unless they have been officially cleared.

Sucks for LSU, too.
Now there's an excuse for what might have been an impressive win.
There's virtually no upside fro LSU except a W.
May as well be playing St Mary's on the Snake.

From what I read the university will not let the 8, or any student with academic infractions pending participate.
