Not buying the hype....

I told myself that "this year I'm not going to buy into the hype that is LSU pre-season football reporting".... I won't buy into the fluffy articles from the advocate that tell how a guy who's been riding the bench for 3 years and who is now getting the starting nod has been lighting it up in camp. Nor will I buy into the Les Miles sound bites of how this unit is doing or this player is looking.
It always seems that those articles about "this guy or that guy doing so great" are quickly preceeded by "that guy" getting put on the bench after game 1. There's a reason they didn't play before - they weren't good enough. I fully expect before our preseason is over to have more write up's about Richard Murphy, how this is his time, he's doing great, etc. etc..... but I am hesitatnt to believe it. Oh, it makes for a great story, but realistically it's a better story than it is realistic. I have no grand aspirations that JJ or JL will have made drastic improvements between last year and this year, nor will our OL miraculously become a steel wall against imposing defenders all because we replaced T-Bob. We're still being coached by Stud right? Right.
I've come to realize it's all BS. This is a business and one with which the fans and community are emotionally invested in.
If I'm being honest, I admit I want to believe, I really do. But after seeing the last two years I am not willing to become emotionally involved in this football team. I will cheer them on, but I will maintain my judment of this team and our coaching staff based on last years play. Until they show me something otherwise.
That is all.

I tend to agree with you. I'll be pulling like crazy for them but I have a want for them to prove it to me before I get all gaga over them. (see what i did there?)

Miles will once again reach new heights in squandering the talent that took so much effort to get here in the first place.

I think the OL will be better because of Lonergan, Blackwell and Hurst. The most important change and addition is Ben Wilkerson. I think Miles having him work with the OL is scaring the hell out of "Stud the Dud" and we might finally see him get off his lazy butt and do the job he was hired to do.

at least wait to watch the first game, and if they are crap, than oh well at least you can have an excuse to barbeque and drink beer every saturday, thats my attitude towards it, and by the way Richard Murphy will have a good year this year.

Dude, it's a sport...a SPORT, like 3 or 4 steps up from Pop Warner football. It's for entertainment value (unless your a player!).
SPORTS = ENTERTAINMENT
Keep it in perspective. If it's not enjoyable, then quit watching it and find something else more enjoyable to bide your time.
It's not like LSU vs. Ole'Miss is life-n-death and holds implication for the future of our great country like USMC vs. the Taliban (and please don't lecture me on war, I've been there, done that).
Sorry for the soapbox, but sometimes the angst and misery on this website perplexes me. I love the Tigers as much as anyone else, but if they go 6 and 6 this year, I won't be jumping off a bridge or anything. Jeez, they're just a bunch a kids a few years out from high school, busting their butts to make Mom and Dad proud and maybe get a shot at making some big money someday. So if you don't want to drink the P&G kool-aid and enjoy the season, then don't. I hear the Saints have been winning lately.

It's so true. I told myself the same thing this year, BUT I am emotionally invested, and when I read these articles I get so fired up that I completely forget about how little faith I have in Miles. How anyone thinks he could do better than 10-2 is beyond me. And the other thing is that, besides Guilbeau, no local writer is gonna write anything negative in pre-season camp; so its just a bunch of hype until proven otherwise.
Show me, don't tell me.

Hope doesn't exactly spring eternal in mytigger!
kidding aside, there are more than hype-related reasons to believe that LSU will improve this year. New coaching hires, more experience at QB, a stout secondary, and more. Sure, things could always go south, but one can be relativley optimistic without believing that Richard Murphy will rush for 1800 yards.

Where's all this so-called hype? We're not even ranked in SI's top 25.

No doubt. There is reason to be optomistic, but there has been each of the past couple of years as well. Gonzo, Wilson, Wilkerson, Emsminger - all great hires.... Peterson, Sheppard, Shepard, Ford, D. Peterson.... all playmakers.
The question is can they put it all together. I'll be cheering for them and I'll be at every game, but I just can't buy into the hype until these players play and the coaches pull their heads our of their rear ends.

It’s simply marketing and if the media wants access well they play along to get access.
The truth is always told on the field where marketing ends and performance begins.

I love the level of douchebaggery you bring to this thread.

what you need is some HOPE... and CHANGE.
Posted on 8/18/10 at 10:20 am to mytigger
to OP...then don't buy into it....go find you a new team. We don't need your kind of fan here.....it is destroying the LSU fanbase that once upon a time was what set LSU apart from every other school. Now, our fans mostly suck because of the negatigers. Sad.
