It's just been confirmed that members of the LSU Tiger Marching Band will attend and perform during the Tiger Kickoff Party on Friday Sept. 3 at the Tabernacle in Atlanta!
The promoter and LSU Atlanta have been working to get this done for over four months now. The interest level was high but they had to wait until travel schedules and other issues were resolved, but now the way is clear for a busload of pep band members to hit the Tabernacle somewhere between 9 and 10:30 pm.
Interim Band Director Roy King told me they are jacked up to play for a couple thousand crazy LSU fans on a concert stage in Atlanta. Quoting Mr. King: "This sounds like a LOT of fun...By the time we're done everyone will be going crazy - so tell the band after us we'll have the crowd good and ready for them!"
The show will open with Amanda Shaw, followed by Travis Matte and then Bag of Donuts completes the blowout party. Besides the Tiger Band appearance, there will also be prize giveaways and a special "2010 season invocation" by the incomparable Evil Twins during the set with Travis Matte.
There is also a downstairs show room and bar that will feature two Atlanta-based bands, Zydefunk and Zydeco T. providing an alternative place to hangout during the night.

I believe that someone posted they would be in Section 109.

They don't have the usual number (325)?

they haven't had cuts yet. but an older member of the band told me they may be under that number by his estimation. I think the fewest they ever cut in my 5 years was like 4 or so (from preseason week, not auditions all together). They cut damn near 100 my first 2 years if I recall correctly (03 and 04)

So you meant that fewer kids auditioned this year than usual? I seem to recall Joe Alleva promising a smaller Tiger band this year, so I was wondering if it had something to do with that....and the fact that both Wickes and Moorhouse are gone.

....Awesome! Can't get here soon enough! Got a big group going!

well the way it works is people have a playing audition and then if they pass that they are invited to summer camp and then they cut more people there. Like I said, damn near 100 got cut one year and less than 10 another. Just depends. But from what I heard they were looking for more people to go back to Tiger Band or for people to audition. Likely just on brass though. I don't think the AD went forward with the smaller band idea.

They cut an enormous amount in 2008. 2009 too.
I had a feeling numbers will be down this year when I got this email last week:
"The LSU Department of Bands is holding auditions for the 2010 Golden Band from Tigerland. There are spots available for drumline, wind players and colorguard. For more information contact the Band Department before August 14th at 225-57....."

I wonder why the interest level isn't there this year.
Is it due to budget cuts, loss of Wickes and Moorhouse, or something else?

Probably because of Moorhouse.
Frank really had no influence on Tiger Band.
