clarify?

In the domestic leagues, there is no playoff, the top team in the regular season is the Champ. The BCS, the top two teams in the regular season play each other, and the winner is the champ. That's much closer than having the top 8/16 teams play in a single elimination tournament.

The ironic thing about this thread is the BCS is much, much closer to the way the domestic leagues decide their champions than any playoff is.
In the EPL, if you go 38-0-0 and have 114 points at the end of the season, you can be assured of a shot at the title, unlike the BCS.

If you go undefeated in League One, though, no one considers you the best team in England, because your schedule was crap, and if you played the top EPL teams, you'd get killed. That's essentially what a non-BCS conf team is like.

Yeah, at least the English Federation (or whatever it's called) splits them into different leagues or subdivisions or what-not. In college football, the Sun Belt is in the same subdivision as the SEC. Also, Cincinnati, in a BCS conference, went undefeated during the 2009 regular season and got nothing.

Yeah, but the Sun Belt and their schools have a choice. They can either go down to I-AA and compete for NCs, or stay here and happily collect all that $$$$$. I think I know their answer.

Not even all BCS conferences are created equal, and it was pretty obvious that Cincy wasn't one of the top teams in the country (and it showed in the bowl).

Listen, if I could choose, I'd move the season up one week and I'd do a 4 team playoff, with the semis two weeks after the regular season/CCGs end, in the home stadiums of the #1 and #2 teams. Then, the loser of those games would still go to bowls, and the winners would play in the NCG at the neutral site. It'd be exactly the same now. For example, if #1 Bama played #4 Va Tech, and #2 OSU played #3 Texas, the games would be at BDS and the Shoe, and if Bama and OSU won, VT would go to the Orange, Texas to the Fiesta, and the bowls would then select their teams like now. I like this because it still keeps the bowl system very in tact, it doesn't affect school/academics much, it keeps the regular season very meaningful still, and there eliminates basically all complaints about someone getting screwed.

With that being said, though, I'm still OK with the BCS. IMO, it's a lot better than an 8 team playoff and infinitely more times better than 16.

And if Boise scheduled two premier BCS teams (top 10) and two solid BCS teams (top 25-also receiving votes) OOC and ran through them, they'd get their shot. But they choose to take their one tough OOC game a year, maybe win it, then walk through their joke of a conference, and make a BCS game to get their $$$$$$. Fine, that's their choice. BSU would rather have an easy shot at making a BCS bowl and getting $$$ than having a slim shot at a NC, and if they lose those games, no shot at a BCS bowl and its $$$.

I went to yalls game against North Cobb and Harrison last year, dominated both. If you hadn't lost Jordan and your center back to that red card I'm sure yall would have beaten Northview (I think?). Hopefully the GHSAA will figure out a way to prevent the top two teams from playing in the first round from now on.

yeah those 2 games were pretty boring. those teams were awful. and yeah we definitely would have won had our 2 best players been playing, considering we basically should have won anyway. oh well though, nothing you can do.

also, didnt realize there were so many people from around here on TD. pretty cool.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but the BCS is not even in the same universe as the domestic tables when it comes to determining a legit champion.

understandable. they were really recent for me and a poster on here is good friends with my coach, so it was necessary to talk about.

it probably happens to a lotta posters in louisiana or at least it could, but it's a little different since we both live in marietta.

Substitute "a playoff" for "the BCS" and the exact same statement applies.
