That's his choice, though.

Anybody think they could pry Jon Gruden from the MNF booth?

Gruden has become a much better football coach ever since he is no longer coaching. Another year in the booth and this guy will be a legendary coach!!

I dont know if getting drunk and calling every player the greatist of all-time qualifies as passion.

Pretty consistent with top tier state school coaching jobs, before incentives and outside income are added in. And Penn State only disclosed his salary after the state supreme court ordered the release.

I think the mystique of St. Joe the Humble is vastly exaggerated.

How can any college football fan not like Paterno? Just don't get it. He has a 61 year record there and you think he's hiding something?

Well...he hid his salary for several years.

I don't know dude. I just don't like him. I'm not trying to make a legal case here. Opinions are subjective. I don't like the way he's always projected himself as being above the coaching profession. I think I understand why he said he didn't want to leave coaching to the Switzers and Sherrills of the world, but I'd rather hang out with Barry or Jackie any day. I even saw Barry at a Willie Nelson 4th of July picnic in Luckenbach one year and he seemed like a fun guy.

This is a sore spot even with my own father. We can't talk about politics or Joe Paterno without some argument or uncomfortable silences.

He's a fricking Kilmer (and props to Draconian Sanctions for calling me out on omitting Saban in the active coaches with statues category).

ETA: crap, I think Joe Bowden has a statue too.

Penn State is a sleeping giant. Whoever follows Jo Pa steps into an incredible job opportunity.

PSU has the facilities and the money. They have a huge recruiting area and fan base.

It's scary to think just how good the Nittany Lions can get with an energetic, young coach on his way up the coaching ranks.

I am sure OSU will continue to hold them in check. "Sleeping Giants" is a little over board no?

I also agree that Schiano (sp?) will be the next head coach at Penn State.

Nope, I think "Sleeping Giants" describes PSU perfectly. Their recruiting has really fallen off under Joe Pa lately, as rivals are using his age against him. Give the Lions a young, new coach with a great rep, and watch their recruits be in the top ten-top five every year.

It's a big state, and the Lions can get the pick of the New England and Atlantic states as well as eastern Ohio when they are on top of their game.

And FWIW, I have Al Golden at Temple succeeding Joe Pa at PSU when the day comes.

Happy Vally is about a three hour drive from "eastern" Ohio, Pitt will have a better chance snagging those kids than Penn State.

And yet there are currently six players on the Lion roster from Ohio. Which is as many as there are on the Pitt roster. And no one is pretending that Penn State is setting the world on fire recruiting-wise.

Just saying.

Not reading over this whole thread. Someone may have said it. Being the Penn State HC is a good job. Being the guy AFTER Joe Pa..??? Not so good.

Hide and watch man. I predict the new HC at PSU after Joe Pa will win the Big Ten inside of three years. And make the BCS title game in five.

Going out on a limb here, aren't I?

Tom Bradley has really been the head coach since 2005. Every Penn St fan I know credits Joe Pa stepping down and letting Bradley be the coach for there resurgence

I would really be surprised if Tom Bradley was given the reins of the Lions program post Joe Pa.

Penn State, by all accounts, knows how important their next hire is. IIRC they have already formed a committee of school officials and influential alumni and backers to go over all possible candidates.

My guess is, they'll pick a guy who knows the recruiting area already and is familiar with the lifestyle in Pennsylvania. Why is why I believe Al Golden at Temple will be the man.
