And he also sign a letter of intent....intent being the key word there. Nothing was official yet. I know these kids are 18 yrs old, but thats life. Better to learn early than late.

So you'd be cool if you showed up to school your freshman year as a regular student and they told you, "Sorry...you don't have a scholarship here anymore. You can either not go to school this semester or you can pay out of your pocket. If you want, you can come back in January. Yeah, sorry if you could've gone to another school on scholarship. shite happens, oh well."

JJ27, you forgot a part:

"You can come back in January and while we won't have a contract GUARANTEEING you a scholarship, you will have one."

These kids are at the will of the coaches if they greyshirt. That's the sad part. Why should he trust Miles to give him that scholarship in January if he pulled the one in the fall?

Did I say the recruits should be happy about it? I know I wouldn't be. But at the same time, I would understand that kind of thing happens. I would get whatever information together I needed and make the best decision moving forward. Also, you are leaving out the fact that they can still transfer if given their release..and not miss anytime.

Also, all this feeling sad for these guys who are getting a complete free ride to getting a degree is funny. Some people had to bust arse in high school to be able to go to college, not just by playing football.

Obviously I would if I made the clear and deliberate choice to go to that school knowing there was absolutely a chance I wouldn't get the scholarship. Porter knew that at least two of the guys who signed were not going to be scholarship players this fall. He was as aware of this as Miles was. And yet he (according to the bashers) never once had a single conversation about the issue with any of the coaches at any point over the nearly six months that he has known about the issue.
