I'll be spending some time in Denver and Aspen soon. Does anybody have any recommendations?

Fruition in Denver comes highly recommended from a friend of mine, and from the website, it's look great, so I'll be giving it a shot.

From my own research of the towns, here are some of the restaurants that have high reviews online and look interesting enough from the websites. Does anyone have any experiences with any of these restaurants, good or bad?

Denver:

Panzano
Vesta Dipping Grill
Rioja
Potager
Cafe Berlin
Rack and Rye

Aspen:

Brexi Aspen
Montagna
Campo de Fiori
Woody Creek Tavern
Zocalito Latin Bistro

Krabloonik looks awesome, but we will be in Aspen during the off season, so I don't think it will be open.

Vesta Dipping Grill is good, for steak The Chophouse is good. If you are in Aspen and not Snowmass you can't go wrong

oh, and it's been awhile since I've been to aspen, but, back when I lived there, Pinons was probably the most popular in-town joint. I always took visitors out of town to eat, though...to places like woody creek tavern, PCC, and Krabloonicks.

For cheap eats in Aspen - New York Pizza is owned by 2 guys from Louisiana. One of them is an LSU grad.

I spent many a late, late night up in that joint drinking off their keg beer after all the bars had closed...good times.

Since you once lived there, do you have any recommendations for activities during the off season?

This will be for my honeymoon, so we've got a couple of day hikes planned, we plan on renting some bikes to ride around town and few trails, and of course some shopping. I know most of the real touristy stuff will be closed, so what else is there to do? This will be my first trip to Aspen.

not sure what you mean by "off season"...if you mean the summer, this is not the off season by any stretch. The old saying was "the winters bring you here, the summers keep you here." Anyway, I'd highly recommend a hike to Cathedral Lake - it's hard but well worth it. You should check out independence pass and the ghost town up at the top. There's a spot midway down on the Aspen side where there's a bunch of boulders in the middle of the river/stream that we used to go hang out at and just chill all day long (the mountain's version of a beach). You should go rafting - check out Riff Raft (if they're still open). I guided for them - ask for the trip up to Buena Vista on the Arkansas river. It's a full day trip but very fun. Take the gondola up to the top of the Ajax and bring a picknick with you. You can hike out from the peak and find some stunning spots to eat. The summers are much more relaxing than the winters. Go spend an afternoon in Woody Creek Tavern drinking margaritas - it's truly an experience. If you're into fly fishing, you have to go fly fish the frying pan - get up near the dam and you will wear them out. Let me know if you have any other questions.

First weekend of October, so a lot of the summer activities are closed (the gondola, rafting, etc) and the winter season isn't opened yet.

I know Earl and Kevin from high school. I'm not sure I know Mark. I've only been there to see them one time. I was in Snowmass one week forever ago and stopped by and had a beer with Earl.

Gotcha...you can still do most of what I suggetsed(except the rafting, of course). The town will be empty that time of year, and many restaraunts will be shut down, but it'll be beautiful. I'm not sure if the foilage change will have already happened at that point or not...if not, i'd spend a lot of time up on the pass (if it's still open). There's also a hike up to the maroon bells that would be beautiful that time year.

I'll second Woody Creek and NY Pizza. The food is good at Woody Creek too. If you are a mountain biker there are tons of great trails.....but the altitude will kick your butt. A good road ride is up to the Maroon Bells. You can also take a shuttle bus up there and do some hiking.

I plan on running some trails while there, and I plan on dying from the altitude.

Also, if you're looking for some off-beat "locals'" joints, check out Johnny McGuires for subs/sandwiches. You can even order delivery and the orange vw bettle with the huge green pickle will arrive shortly (I drove that thing for awhile - the looks from the tourists were priceless). Little Annies is a good dive joint. Food is not so great, but the bar livens up later. I got drunk with Jerry Tarkanian one night there. The J Bar at the Hotel Jerome is a bit more upscale, but is a blast as well.
