Breakout Player 2010

One of the greatest attributes of this team in the past four years is having the unexpected player become a significant impact. The list is long and you know it. What I like is that it comes from every avenue. An undrafted free agent like PT, a near Mr. Irrelevant Colston, trading for a castoff like Shanlee who has done the job, Charleston was working in a furniture factory when he got a call, trading up in the draft to get a punter, Hargrove was a three time loser at the brink of never seeing the NFL again, Mike Bell had 17 rushing attempts '07-'08, most would have guessed Lance Moore to be a practice squad lifer... that's not all, but you get my drift.
WHO will be THE breakout story we are talking about this year? Here are my candidates-
Lynell Hamilton- there is a gap to be filled, he fits the power need mold, Payton has had strong comments on him, might have been a key reason for deciding to let Bell walk
A Linebacker- I dunno who, there are many possibilities
Meachem- as big of strides as he made last year I think he still has more to show, the ball spread around so much might be the biggest hindrance to individual quantum leap
Jimmy Graham- I'm thinking they wanna ease him into taking over in '11 but his talent (or Shockey injury) could force the issue
Charles Brown- exact same thing as Graham but Bushrod in front of him instead of Shockey
Junior Galette- already awarded the Onome Ojo prize for highest off radar expectations
Alex Brown- paired with Will Smith he could reach double digit sacks for the first time
Porter/Greer- I'm talking breakout here in the sense that if they can avoid injury they could become national talk as the best shutdown duo in the league. '07-'08 I was pushing Jahri Evans as the best young guard in the league. Last year he exploded nationally becoming talked about as the best guard period. I've got the same vibe on Porter-Greer as a team. Having them fulltime in man shutdown will allow GW to go nuts in blitz scheming.
Clint Gresham, long snapper- not a lot of flash but he might be the best odds of any rookie taking a starting job
Malcolm Jenkins- ditto the Charles Brown-Jimmy Graham scenarios. Starter in '11 but one Sharper injury away from making it happen this year.
Matt Tennant- while we're throwing out bright prospects I gotta add him. At lowest I go 50/50 that he will be the 2011 starter at Center.
Who else ya got and why? Arrington? Rod Harper? Reggie playing for a contract? DT Jay Ross or Al Woods? This roster is busting at the seams with talent.

With Shockey's injury history, you have to think that Graham will make a major impact at TE.

I don't know about breakout, but I'm interested to see how Al Woods handles the NFL.

did you really just mention a long snapper's name in the breakout player thread?

I know, I know (long snapper) BUT for any rookie to win a starting job on the Super Bowl champion team, and undrafted at that... that's got some breakout value. I'd call it low end value but secures that position for a long time. Houser the shyster did what? Like 8 years?

i have a tough time calling a long snapper a starter.

Still strange...like 'defending super bowl' champs
Pre camp breakout playa While he's been in the league a while he's new to the Saints and the noticable differance from what we've had makes Alex Brown my pic.

Ayodele had as much opportunity as ya need last year. I think he's journeyman at best. I'd go Woods or Ross for more upside potential.

Jimmy Graham. Has great measurables and I think he has the attitude to show others teams what they passed on.

how bout REGGIE BUSH! if he stays healthy for the whole season, he has the potential to put up marshall faulk type numbers. he's been good, but he's still due to be great.
