Apparently Jacoby going to LSU is not as much of a sure thing as most posters over here think. Here's an interview between an Astros fan site and Randy Rosetta. Rosetta on Jones

Have to agree with Randy R. on this one. Not looking good for the home team with young Jones.

If the Astros are allowed to sign a 19th round pick for 1.5 million + in the years following "more restricted slot bonuses" it's going to be a slap in the face to the commissioner.

So basically "unless he gives ME an interview I will tell the world he is an Astro." Makes total sense. Maybe Randy should read the Mississippi newspapers.

I live in Houston and no way this tight-assed owner pays high second round money to Jones. Wishful thinking and I'm calling B.S.

The commissioner does not have any control over this...never has.

in 2005 Tulane had 2 guys picked around the 16th round and lost them both because teams went over slot and they each got a little over 1 million. They also lost a guy who went in the 30th round or so and he got like $300,000. If teams want a player, there gonna find a way to get him.

Well, this is a little disconcerting. I was thinking this dude was a virtual lock to come to LSU.

Indeed. I'll continue to hope for the best though.

I agree with this. Drayton is preparing the team for sale. I wouldn't think he will overpay draft picks this year. But you never know.

AC: What's the latest on the Jones developments?

RR: Wish I had an answer on that, but I can’t get JaCoby or his dad, Bubba, to return calls.

End of interview.

The fact that the Astros drafted him shows that they were going to make a run at him and offer out of slot money.

Would the selection of DJ LeMahieu in the 41st round by the Tigers be used in the same sense?

It's the same thing in the sense that the team is taking a flyer and probably willing to offer an amount equal to what they think the player's true value is even though they passed on him in the same round due to signability issues.

The Tigers willingness to throw 10th round money (just a guess) at LeMahieu wasn't as much of a factor because 10th round money isn't that much. According to the report, Jones is being offered first round money. That's a significant threat to LSU's chances with Jones.

While JaCoby has spoken to some media members in Mississippi and said he’s committed to playing for LSU, his silence over here and the fact that he hasn’t made a public announcement is a strong signal that the Astros are still very much in play.

Say what? Does this mean that left is right and right is left? He's made a "public announcement" of his "commitment to playing for LSU" in Miss. but not in La. So does that mean what he says in Miss. doesn't count in La.?

Hey Randy, you're sounding like W!
