My favorite part:

Fiutak's writing is better and more fun than most. Thanks for posting.

In terms of substance in this piece, I think he mirrors my slightly guarded optimism about this season more than anything season preview I have seen thus far.

Nice.

A realistic, objective article written with some intelligence.

... a refreshing change from the crap that gets linked and posted on the rant these days.

I am a "posi-Tiger."

That doesn't mean I'm not realistic and concerned.

BUT: I get tired of reading the constant drivel and numbnuts posts about "What-if-this?? What-if-that? Miles-sucks-ad-nauseum.

he's spot on with the double digit win mark part.

Guarded optimism is a good way to put my emotions as well.

He knows, just as well as must of us do, that this team's success is going to hinge upon the play of the o-line. 10 wins is realistic and gives us a shot at Atlanta

No matter how much you explain, it will not help at all. Let them believe what they want to believe

I think thats the part that upsets so many LSU fans. We have one of the best teams in the SEC talent wise, yet the results dont show it..

Nobody questions the talent LSU teams have, its whats being done with it.

I'll bite on this one. I think this quote is more telling about how the program has slipped with Miles:

quote:

The team isn't quite good enough to win the West, even with a favorable schedule
If this is true (which it may not be), then Miles has let the program slip. If we don't win the West or at least make the BCS this year, I hope he's fired before he can do more damage. Flame away.

It's strange there's no mention of the need for Jefferson or Lee to step up at QB. That just has to happen. And regarding the writer's assertion that both lines will just (naturally) be better: only the season will tell. Of course our o-line couldn't be any worse, but that's not to say it'll be 100% better either. D-line is a question mark too: will it be significantly better than the 2009 model?

So if LSU goes 10-2 with close losses to Bama and Florida, finishes 2nd in the west, and then wins a New Years day, Non-BCS bowl game, it's still not good enough? You would still want him fired?

I really think we could go 14-0, win everything and some of you would still find a reason to complain and want Miles gone.

Analysis is spot on with one exception - QB play, as pointed out by TigerPanzer.

Otherwise, very well thought out and presented

I love how all of the offensive woes were all on the offensive line. It's so easy just blame them collectively as a group (obviously they were not as good as they needed to be, though). Where's the mention of the Crowton in the article? It is his offense that finished 112th. Where's the mention of Jefferson needing to play better? Why is it only the offensive line? He obviously was good last year, but he's pretty important if he's touching the ball every play.

I hate how articles like this make it seem like all you need is athletes. Talks about all the potential of the lines being better without mentioning who's coaching them. Coaching is very important in college football. Guys like this write their articles, making it seem like the world is possible for all major players just so they aren't wrong if it doesn't go their way. I'm all for optimism, but based on what we saw last year, 9-3 is about as well as we could have done.

Here's to a 14-0 season and heisman candidates in JJ and Ford, with Miles leading this team to glory once again to prove he is by far the best coach on the planet for this team. If you think we'll lose a game, you're a shitty fan!!!

they’ll almost certainly be 5-0 before going to Florida in what might be an SEC Championship preview.

Yea I was wondering about that contradiction myself. It also says somewhere that with a few breaks we could be among the national title contenders.

why is mitch joseph listed as our flex tight end? he is a blocking tight end who has never done anything in the passing game. I would think peterson would be our flexed tight end so he can be a mismatch and not really block. Also, comments lead to clement being the first blocking tight end and joseph would be his back up

Can't complain with what the author wrote in that piece - was very realistic assessment.

Agree with earlier posters tho - our QBs need to step up too, and he didn't mention that.

Again - if you look at last year's losses:
- if our offense can just...do...something, and if Florida doesn't have the offensive PI non-call, there's a good chance we win that game.
- ironically, if Jefferson doesn't get hurt and the Peterson INT is called right, we may have beaten Bama. Remember we were winning heading into the fourth quarter.
- The Ole Miss debacle. Nuff said.
- If we aren't playing in the absolute worst field conditions possible (especially for a bowl supposedly of the caliber of Capital One), we might have beaten Penn State too (we lost by two points on a last second FG).

And those were with the 112th-ranked offense. So we just might surprise some people this year, especially with an added fire to prove people wrong.

Well, the line was spectacularly awful. The complete inability of the line to do anything even resembling competence kind of put a hitch into any offesnive game plan. I'm hardly Crowton's biggest fan, but the reason the article pins the trouble on the offensive line is because, well, that's what happened. The line was incredibly awful.

Honestly, I think he's a little high on how they will suddenly improve the line. He keeps talking about new attitudes and such, and we've heard that before. Frankly, the line sucked last year. An offense can't function if the line can't block anyone.

He did mention Jefferson needs to take the next step, but honestly, Jefferson put up a stat line nearly identical to McElroy's. Jefferson needs to improve, but he doesn't need to take a quantum leap.
