"Coach Mainieri called me out of the blue and said, 'You need to come on a visit within the next week,'" Raph Rhymes said. "It went really well. We talked about the whole deal with my freshman year. He said, 'I really thought you could play here that year, but I was full." But he kept up with me through Eunice."
LSU's starting second baseman Tyler Hanover still has two more years, but Mainieri told Rhymes he is interested in moving him to the other side of the diamond at third base.
Rhymes tried third base last summer with a traveling team and says he is up for anything as long as it means getting to be a Tiger.
"I feel like whatever they need me to do, they can count on me," Rhymes said. "I've been a part of a national championship team. I know what it takes to win. I can't wait to get back down there."
Rhymes signed his scholarship papers Tuesday in Monroe and will be the fourth local player on the LSU roster. Pitchers Daniel Bradshaw (OCS) and Ben Alsup (Ruston) will be seniors in 2011 and St. Frederick pitcher Zach LaSuzzo will be a sophomore.

doesn't sound like he's guaranteed shite

Sounds like he might have to compete with Jacoby Jones

With his numbers, you can probably count on him at least being the DH.

For those like me who dont know who this kid is, here are his stats at LSU-E this season. Very impressive to say the least.
.483 average
31 doubles
12 homers
98 RBI (in 63 games)
15/16 in stolen bases
20 walks
9 KO

If Jacoby Jones has a full scholarship, you need to find a spot for him on the infield. If he doesn't play third, can he play first or outfield?

Those stats are sick in any level of baseball

If Jones comes here, he plays no matter what, they are giving that kid a full scholly, he can pretty much do whatever he wants

Coach Mainieri is gonna get to see how the cream rises. It may not be clear in the fall. You can bet on one heck of battle between 4 or 5 kids for 3 spots. Rhymes is a proven entity-can he continue to perform-Jones, Ceccehni will have to live up to their hype! Man it will fun or painful to watch depending on where you sit!

That might be a bit extreme Russian, but who knows, some translate better than others and some dont. How tough mentally is the kid if he goes 1 for 15.

.200% drop is pretty strong but it is not unreasonable to thing he will hit less than his JUCO stats. Most pro scouts have his bat as plus, but only time will tell how he hits at this level. Watkins dropped .100 % points.

His BA may be really high if his AB are low? ie he does not play!

I was using as a basis for comparison Trey Watkins' LSU-E stats with his LSU 2010 stats.
At LSU-E he batted .418 in 2009.
At LSU he batted .268 in 2010.

Damn, by your predictions Bryce Harper would have only batted .250 with 15 dingers.
