How many decades did it take for the gulf to be back to normal after the first spill?

What haven't you been listening. That leak was worse.

Obviously it killed everything and in the gulf and only in the summer of 2009 was fishing of any kind again able to be resumed. Porpoise were spotted in the northern gulf of mexico for the first time earlier this year.

Seriously though, after three years it was virtually impossible to find any sign they spill had occured. Of course that all depends on who you believe.

It's all in who you believe in which one was worse, too. Using an estimate of 40,000 barrels/day for the Deepwater Horizon spill, Ixtoc's 3,000,000 barrels will be be passed this week. Some of it is being collected, but there's still at least a month to go.
