and JJ's dink and dunk passing game (no true vertical threat) can win LSU 10 games.

Not sure we have a top 3 SEC defense.

You understand that it's not necessary for us to have one in order to answer the question, right? It's a hypothetical.

I'll go ahead and say "yes" to the original question.

back on topic - I'm just thinking hypothetical because it kind of worked the last two championships ( I know the passing game was better). That was then and this is now. The SEC seems a little more tough nowadays.

True

With a top notch SEC defense you are in every game so if you can produce 20 pts a game then you will be tough to beat! This applies teams in the SEC, stats can be misleading if you play in a shitty conference!

The stats lie somewhat for 2007 though. That was not really a great defense.

i think we will have a very good D. maybe not top 3 but top notch.

If we can put some drives together and not make so many mistakes then or D will win some games.

I say true

i don't think that jj can bring us anywhere near the national championship game no matter how good our defense is.

Ah ok...Well then if LSU had Matt Barkley instead of JJ, would LSU go to the BCS title game? Since we're just throwing shite out there.

Yep. Also, great game against UTK in the SECCG. The defense got routinely carved up against decent passing offenses though. Chavis is definitely a step up from Pelini's schemes imho.

Possible if our DT's are dominant. I think the speed on the edge this year, with our corners, is going to make it hard to throw. The power running game is what I'm concerned with.

Of course it could. I don't think you'll have a top 3 defense, but an offense could be absolutely atrocious and win 10 games with a defense that good.

Deserves its own thread imo.
