Dark Knight Question

I am trying to settle an argument I am having with my brother. In the Dark Knight did Batman intentionally try to save Harvey Dent or did he try to go after Rachel?

Why is that even a debate, he was going after Rachel, he said he was going after Rachel and told Gordan to go get Dent. I hope you won
