I'd prob put Mauck ahead of Tyler FWIW. And Bowe should be atleast 2nd. Career leader in TDs

Criteria?
Game Manager plus accuracy equals Matt Flynn.

I would take Kevin Faulk ahead of CC

why are DE/OLB lumped together??
same reason Ali is an ILB and Cecil's the #1 RB

Agree with a lot the list, great work. Here is my two cents (or buck-fifty)
QB: You nailed it.
RB: I loved Collins, but he played three and half games. It's just crazy to list him first, especially over Faulk. Collins was a jaw dropping player, but he had no real impact because he played in so few games. After Faulk, it's a tough group really, but the lack of Addai and yes, Hester, is a tough blow. I'd rank both ahead of Mealy and Collins.
WR: Clayton should be #2. We forget just how stunningly awesome he was.
TE: LeFleur's my #1, and I'd have Harold Bishop ahead of Savoie.
OL: I'd find a way to make Andolsek higher, but wow... we've had some great OL players.
K: Jasper is a huge omission. Completely unjustifiable to put Corbello and Lefleur ahead of him. And wow, Browndyke NOT being #1 is going against the grain big time.
KR: Looks good.
DT: I want a way to rank Gillyard, but I think you're right.
DE: What? not Alem? /stifles laughter
ILB: What a loaded group. Seriously, look at that list. Amazing.
CB: Seems about right. Maybe I'd move Tory James up a slot, but Webster was a total badass.
S: No space for Clarence LeBlanc? That guy was one of the most ferocious hitters ever. And Roman's career ended poorly, but he probably desreves a spot on that list.
P: No complaints. We've had some really good punters, too. Kessler was the man.
Coach: I don't really want to open up the can of worms, but I think Miles is clearly ahead of Arnsparnger, as a lot of the decline of LSU can be traced back to him, and even if you believe the same thing is happening under Miles... he at least has a MNC to show for it.

"DT: I want a way to rank Gillyard, but I think you're right."
Gillyard was the DE opposite Northern rather than a DT, correct? Anyway, I wanted to say that Gillyard should be on the list but there were too many hosses ahead of him.
On the OL, don't forget about Whitworth, Black, and Ralph Norwood. Not sure who I would bump down but I suggest that Nacho could have been a bit overrated. I would definitely put Andolsek at #3.
RB's: I just don't see how one can favor Cecil (very little actual production to go with all that talent) over the SEC's 2nd all time leading rusher and #1 all time total yards man in K Faulk.

Hey Flyin Tigah,
The original poster limited the list to the last 25 years so Bert Jones et al are not up for consdiration.
I also would put Wms. over Wroten if for no other reason than Williams played 4 years while Wroten (I think) was a JUCO transfer and played only 2.

Offensive Linemen
1. Alan Faneca (1995-1997)
2. Kevin Mawae (1990-1993)
3. Nacho Albergamo (1984-1987)
4. Eric Andolsek (1984-1987)
5. Andrew Whitworth (2001-2005)
Whitworth nevers get the repsect from LSU fans. He is now flying under the radar for the Bengals and he voted their most underrated player. He just shows up and plays very well.

You've gotta have Mark Roman in your list. What about Cedric Donaldson?

Didn't Domanic Davis return punts, too?

1. JaMarcus Russell (2003-2006)
2. Tommy Hodson (1986-1989)
3. Rohan Davey (1997-2001)
4. Matt Flynn (2003-2007)
5. Herb Tyler (1995-1998)
I'm pretty sure Rohan still holds all kinds of season records for LSU. I'd go Rohan Davey, Tommy Hodson, JaMarcus Russell with Matt Flynn, Matt Mauck and Herb Tyler in a three way tie for 5th.
quote:
Runningback
1. Cecil Collins (1997-1997)
2. Kevin Faulk (1995-1998)
3. Harvey Williams (1986-1990)
4. Rondell Mealey (1996-1999)
5. LaBrandon Toefield (1999-2002)
C'mon, Kevin Faulk has to be #1. And I'd probably put Domanick Davis and Toefield ahead of Mealey. I'd go Kevin Faulk, Harvey Williams, Charles Scott with Domanick Davis, LaBrandon Toefild and Joseph Addai tied for 3rd.
quote:
Wide Receiver
1. Josh Reed (1999-2001)
2. Wendell Davis (1984-1987)
3. Dwayne Bowe (2003-2006)
4. Michael Clayton (2001-2003)
5. Early Doucet (2004-2007)
Good list, but I could see Bowe and Davis being switched. Also, I may put J. Myers ahead of Doucet.
quote:
Tight End
1. Robert Royal (1998-2001)
2. David LeFleur (1993-1996)
3. Brian Kinchen (1984-1987)
4. Richard Dickson (2007-2009...)
5. Nickie Savoie (1993-1996)
No Eric Edwards?

4. Ben Wilkerson (2001-2004)
5. Eric Andolsek (1984-1987)tie
5. Herman Johnson (2004-2008) tie
No Andrew Whitworth on this list makes it defunct automatically. It's Faneca, Mawae, Whitworth and everyone else.

Kick Returners
1. Eddie Kennison (1992-1995)
2. Trindon Holliday (2006-2009)
3. Skyler Green (2002-2005)
4. Kevin Faulk (1995-1998)
5. Sam Martin (1984-1987)
Again, no Domanick Davis?

Inside Linebackers
1. Michael Brooks (1983-1986)
2. Bradie James (1999-2002)
3. Trev Faulk (1999-2001)
4. Allen Stansberry (1993-1996)
5. Ali Highsmith (2004-2007)
Did Ali ever play MLB? I thought he was purely an OLB and Darry Beckwith/L. Sanders/Cutrera played MLB.
quote:
Cornerbacks
1. Patrick Peterson (2008-present)
2. Corey Webster (2001-2004)
3. Tory James (1992-1995)
4. Chevis Jackson (2004-2007)
5. Travis Daniels (2001-2004)
Just giving a shout out to Fred Booker and Ryan Clark!

Coaches:
1. Nick Saban (2000-2004)
2. Bill Arnsparger (1984-1986)
3. Les Miles (2005 - )
4. Gerry DiNardo (1995-1999)
5. Mike Archer (1987-1990)
Seriously, Les Miles has a NC at LSU! You can debate he and Saban all you want, but they are easily #1 and #2.

3- JR
4a- Flynn
4-b Mauck

5. LaBrandon Toefield (1999-2002)
1- Faulk
2- CC (Only due to lack of PT)
3- HW
4- Joe Addai
5- LT
quote:

4. Michael Clayton (2001-2003)
5. Early Doucet (2004-2007)
I would swap Bowe & Clayton there because MC was a better all-around WR even though he didn't have DB's stats.
quote:
Defensive Tackles/Nose Tackles
1. Glenn Dorsey (2004-2007)
2. Chad Lavalais (2000-2003)
3. Henry Thomas (1983-1986)
4. Anthony McFarland (1995-1998)
5. Claude Wroten (2004-2005)
I would move Booger up to #2 here and move the rest down.
Everything else looks about right IMO.
ETA..we need to hurry up and get another coach so we can move archer off of the top 5 list and move CLM down a notch.

Make your own lists then. Some of you are too ignorant to even understand the title thread. Mark Roman wasn't on my list of safeties and he might could be 5th. Ryan Clark? He's a better NFL player than college. Some of the ideas are just dumb.
To answer some points:
I have OLB and DE's grouped together because Arnsparger and Archer didn't use "defensive ends". Eric Hill and Sancho were considered LB's in the 3-4 defense. They're very similar positions. Inside backers are Ali Highsmith...he plays OLB in a 4-3 defense, but he's not an "outside linebacker" the way that Hill and Sancho were. Research.
I think I should stop doing lists because I am hoping others would give me their entire top 5 at each position instead of "No Billy Cannon? No Jim Taylor? God I am a fricking idiot." Don't act like you don't have the time. So, as usual, not one person entertains with a similar catalogue (not including the people who at least broke it down and agreed or disagreed).
