Front catcher or back catcher????

To what position on a baseball field does this refer. I've it heard for a third time, and still can't figure it out. Help please.

I think it's more likely referring to lawn mowers. Which are, in fact, used on baseball fields.

Which reminds me of a joke---You know why Grady Little never mows his lawn? He doesn't know how to pull the starter.

Count me as another person who has never heard the phrase front or back catcher, and I played ball from 4-18.

black kids call catcher "back catch" and the catcher's mitt is a muff

Piece of random trivia. In the 1800s the catcher crouched much farther back in order to catch the pitch on one bounce so as not to break his fingers (no catcher's mitts then).
The umpire stood behind the pitcher to call balls and strikes.
In those days the catcher was definitely 'back.'
