If you go by lines of latitude:
Pacific-12 North
Colorado
Oregon
Oregon State
Utah
Washington
Washington State
Pacific-12 South
Arizona
Arizona State
California
Southern California
Stanford
UCLA

makes sense.....decent conference

I want to see a Utah nebraska Rose Bowl

That's really the only logical way to go. East-West doesn't work without the Big XII schools.

that would be mildly humorous...

i've read in some articles that utah was promised a spot in the south division with the arizona schools. hmmm.

I find that hard to believe. First off, Utah should be chomping at the bit to get into a BCS conference. Secondly, I don't see the 4 California teams getting split, and that's the only way you could get Utah in the South.

It doesn't have to be geographically perfect. You could have this:
Wash
Wash St
Utah
Colorado
Az
ASU
Oregon
OSU
Cal
Stanford
USC
UCLA

This is the only setup that makes much sense. All of the California schools are going to insist on being in the same division. Same goes for the Washington and Oregon schools

I have heard they may split the divisions "like a zipper". That way, each team would be guaranteed at least one trip to Los Angeles each year.

If you look at how they used to do divisions in baseball in the 90s;
South:
Arizona
Arizona St.
UCLA
USC
Cal
Stanford
North:
Oregon St.
Washington
Washington St.
Portland St.
It only makes sense for Utah and Colorado to be in the North and be the newest forced "rivalry" due to conference expansion.

i say we split up the CA rivals
division A
Cal
UCLA
Washington
Washington St
Oregon
Oregon St
division B
USC
Stanford
Colorado
Utah
Arizona
Arizona St
the only problem with the above is the travel for UCLA in regards to the rest of their division sans Cal.

Do USC and UCLA cease playing road games?

Oops. I meant every other year.

They'd have to play 11 conference games, but I think it would be possible for everyone to get 1 LA trip per year

Only need a conference if you will play a conference title game. IMHO

JMO

Oregon State
Washington
Washington State
South
Arizona

Southern California
Stanford
UCLA
Utah
I put Cal in the north (not ridiculous in a geographical sense) - if this is a political no go because all the Cali schools must be together then disregard I suppose

its not that, but you can't seperate Cal and Stanford unless they are doing perm opponents from the other division.
Posted on 6/16/10 at 12:34 pm to H-Town Tiger
well, i'm biased by teh SEC model but I think doing one permanent opp division opponent is good because it can let rivals keep playing (aub/uga) and create/strengthen new rivalries (lsu/fla)

Unless they plan on doing permament rivals like the SEC, which I'm not a fan of, Stanford, SC, UCLA and Cal will all push hard to be in the same division. These are the 4 schools that pretty much control the Pac-10 politically also. The Washington and Oregon schools are going to want the same setup for them.
