How is the SEC's TV money split up?

Yes but each school is also allowed their own network. They keep all money made by their network.

Makes sense to me. You'd think Texas would see this as a successful model instead of taking most of the money. The SEC has schools that don't pull their weight too, but it still works to produce a successful conference.

For TV revenue (ESPN and CBS contracts) the league itself takes a cut off the top. The reamining amount is then divided into 12 equal shares and the member schools get a share.
For bowl games, there are (I believe) 14 equal shares created. The team that goes to the game gets a share and the league office gets a share. Then each of the 12 member institutions gets a share (so the team that went to the bowl actually gets two shares).

I still think Vandy should have to share their research $ since they get an even share of the athletic pie. Vandy is getting rich as a member of the SEC.

I don't know if you can solely blame texas either. I really think some of the other schools are to blame for this as well. They need to stand up for themselves instead of just rolling over any time Texas says to roll over. I certainly hope TT stands up to them because the deal that is on the table looks absolutely ridiculous unless your school name is ut, ou or aTm.

Yes, this is correct about the bowls. I just wasn't sure about the TV contract.

Two questions:
1) Is the league's cut equal to one share, or is it more or less?
2) If you have a TV game featuring only one SEC school (e.g., Georgia-Georgia Tech), does the same rule apply or does it work as with a bowl game (i.e., school on TV gets one additional share)?

I would assume that the league gets an equal share, but I don't know for certain.
For TV I believe it is strictly an even split. The bowl revenue is different because the teams actually receive money (generated by ticket sales, sponsorship money, etc.) for being a participant in the game. The "extra" share covers expenses as well as provides an incentive to go to a bowl game that may be less than desireable.

It really is too bad. If I understand it correctly, the Kansas States/Baylors/etc of the conference can't afford to bolt because all they can do is drop to the MWC or something, so Texas/OU milk the conference in confidence that the other members won't do anything about it. It might make sense from a productivity perspective, but I'm glad the SEC doesn't shaft Vandy and Miss St. like that. That's a dick move.
