So Texas is getting their own TV Network?

Does any SEC School have their own network and whom would be the first to get one? Florida? Bama? LSU? Miss State?

What's the benefit of having your own network? What does that mean? I mean hell, if LSU is on cox sports and espn... i'm watching the espn channel.

LSU: It's called Tigervision for any game which has not been selected for telecast on one of the networks.
Texas is getting LonghornTV, which will be able to show ALL of their sports which are not selected for telecast on another network.

Why wouldn't LSU Want to broadcast the games for free then? More $$$ from advertisements and LSU gets their product out there.

No football games, but baseball and some basketball. Plus other fringe sports and an assload of Mack Brown/Player/coaches shows.

No. They are paying for it, and will receive all profits. But the PAC-16 proposal would not have allowed the individual network, although UT still wanted it. It was just another sweetener for Beebe to throw in with the new TV deal.

If LSU felt they could get more money from advertising dollars than they could from individual game purchases, you can bet your arse they would do it and make it free.

Why was the Pac 10 even freaking considered? There tv deal was like 50 something million compared to 200 something of the Big XII's?

the pac 10 was going to get a nice deal from fox if they got the big 12 south schools. A&M screwed that plan up

No idea. I heard the PAC-16 math was a little sketchy. I think Darin Revelle has a story questioning the actual numbers. They tried to tell A&M that they could get them $20 million, but A&M suspected it would proably start at 15-16 million and escalate over a few years.

don't confuse something like Tigervision with the package UT is putting together - they already have BEVOTv
This is a full fledged channel - that runs all day, every day, not just during live events
this would be something you would purchase as a part of your sports package on your cable - much like the Big10 has it's own channel

UT getting this concession was a big deal and gets lost in the discussion about the TV contract. It's been on Dodds' wish list for a couple of years but he couldn't do it either by conference rules or internal state politics. Both went by the wayside when UT "saved" the conference. It will have to be included in any future conference UT aligns with. As new technology presents opportunities, they'll have the vehicle to deliver their brand and make money.
It's another opportunity for people to hate TX, but they have to admit it was a brilliant move on his part.

The ability of this new Texas network to draw in huge $$$ is questionable. They'll be stuck with the sports no one attends, while the big games will still be on the big networks.
