Why in the world would Texas, A&M and/or OK go to the Pac Fudge?

With USC going on probation and Nebraska and Colorado going, why on earth would they agree to join a conference in which they're the biggest draw? Nebraska and Colorado ain't what they used to be.
Seriously: Arizona, AZ state, Oregon State, UCLA, Stanford, Washington... They have some really crappy teams. Middle of the road if you ask me. THey're better off in the Big 12 - at least they could keep their rivalries in tact.
FWIW: A&M would fit in great in the SEC.

I think the going theory is money/power...

Why would you want to go to a conference where you're just another team?
Nebraska is also going to the Big-10 btw

What power? Don't they already run the Big 12? It's like Florida or Bama wanting to go to the ACC. I don't get it.
And bless you if you're in Waco at this time of year. I spent many a summer day at the Sul Ross tennis center taking lessons during the Summer.
Hot.

there budgets will certainly go up big time for PAC 10... we are talking about all sports having to fly to the west coast to compete.
I just can't imagine a UT-Washington conference game.

Football wise, traveling isn't a big deal. Texas will only be adding Zona and ASU and we don't even know if they will play 1 or 2 other games with the other division. If it is 1, it won't always be a road game. I bet if it is 2 they will try to make 1 a road game and the other a home game. They won't play Udub every year, they will get to play the cali school which aren't very far away and like I said, not always on the road.
The other sports where there are more games I can see this being more of a pest but not that huge of one. I think some of these kids will be glad to get to visit other states they haven't seen before.

Not to mention lesser competition.

According to one of our dawg fans who lives in Austin, the appeal of the Big 10 or the Pac 10 for Texas is mostly about research funding: Longhorn Dawg

From everything I've heard, this would not come into play for the lesser sports because except for tourneys, they would stick to strictly divisional play. There would be a South Division made up of the Big XII and Arizona schools and a North made up of the rest. Only in fb would there be inter-divisonal play and then only 1 away game a year.
Sounds to me like that would defeat the whole conference scenario. In my mind the Big XII schools would be much better off joining the SEC but the SEC is not going to take Texas Tech and Baylor and the Texas schools are a package deal.
The Texas schools especially have a history with and a closer proximity to the SEC. Plus the SEC is the premier conference in the major sports and has the best tv contract and highest exposure nationally. How many late night West Coast Pac-10 games do you stay up to watch?
But in this day and age where good sense doesn't count for much anymore, anything's possible.

Football wise, they usually have one a week. Sometimes two if there is a thursday game but generally it is one. Basketball is the sport (when playing the other division) that will be affected the most I think when it comes to late games. That of course can be changed, save for friday night games.

It's all about the $. The SEC is what it is because of $, and the Texas and Oklahoma schools that are about to join the PAC 16 or whatever it'll be called are also joining for money.
I think SEC folks are worried they're not going to be the best conference anymore.

Beacsue the big -12 will be dissolved..
Therfore they have to go some where and the Big-10 and SEC aren't inviting them so......
What is your question?

Perhaps but we will always be the SEC and hopefully not some non-regional conglomerate.

Texas is a good team - they would be on par with Georgia, LSU and Auburn. You gotta love the Aggies, but they'd be around a Kentucky or S.C.

I have no freaking clue how this idea even got started, but it is a poorly thought out plan that does nothing but possibly increase tv revenue for participating schools. It sure as hell doesn't create any new compelling matchups.

At first. I think A&M splitting with UT would be great for them in the long run. They are viewed as UT's tagalong here in Texas. If they split, I'd bet they grow into a better program. UT would have a hissy fit. I think A&M would get some recruits in the SEC (with UT in the PAC 10) that they might not ordinarily get. LA might be a fun market to visit, but Oregon and Washington? Not for me.

Texas stands to get research $ they wouldn't get joining the SEC. Also, the expanded PAC 1x will have much larger TV markets than the SEC. It's good financial sense for Texas, Oklahoma and everybody else to join.
I don't think USC is going to be as "down" as everybody thinks we are in the short term. Our scholarship players have yet to defect. If we keep them, we'll be very competitive for the next two seasons. It's the 2-3 seasons after that that you'll notice a decline, if there's to be one.
