their only option will be to go get some ACC schools.
Texas would be LSU's worst nightmare joinging the West division. A&M would be the best fit.

Those big 12 schools headed to Pac 10 will not enjoy that travel.

Texas would make LSU's life harder but would help the sec tremendously. If the Sec gets A&M and Texas they will get a lot more $$$$

Ummmm, the SEC didn't get caught off guard. They are still the dominate conference. Period. Just because a conference has more teams, it doesn't make them better.

IMO, SEC sticks with 12.

No way the SEC got caught off guard. We've been hearing for quite a while that the SEC would not sit idly by while the other conferences expand. I'm 100% confident that the conference has already been in contact with several teams about realignment.

Anybody else think there's a chance this happens? I would love to stay at 12. the dandy one said this morning that he doesn't expect the SEC to add any new teams at least for another two years.

I truly believe this is what happens. No need to add. The only way we add is if UT wants in as well as TAMU. UT doesn't, we won't add.

The only issue I have with this statement is that there may not be viable candidates for expansion in two years. The Big 10 will add Nebraska and possibly two others now and hold off for Notre Dame in a couple years. I've heard they'll go after Maryland, but that's probably just a rumor. However, if they do tap into the ACC, then the ACC will look to replace that school. The cycle continues. Soon the other conferences will be at 14 or 16 teams each and on solid financial ground. The SEC would be two years behind.

How do you conclude the SEC was caught off guard? It's Commissioner has made statements that they were analyzing their options regarding conference realignment, and the statements of others admit to communicating with the SEC about possible admittance. All of these occurring before any decisions made by Colorado and/or Nebraska to leave the Big XII.

The SEC has made overtures to several schools according to published reports, including Texas. I'm sure the SEC has a priority list of which schools it would like to admit, but all the SEC can do is offer invitations. They can't force acceptance.

here is the SEC's problem in all the expansion talk: stability.

every other conference is trying replace teams(bigXII), get to atleast 12(big11), or add more markets to make the conference more appealling for tv deals(pac10). when you are the top conference- theres no place better to move onto- so we keep everyone and dont need to replace anyone.

the difference between the SEC and the other conferences is we CAN stay at the status quo and be fine- others cant.

I don't think the SEC can stand pat if the other conferences move to 16 teams. If Pac-10, Big 10 & ACC all expand to 16, SEC will have to expand to stay on equal footing.

i dont understand equal footing. more teams =/= better. better to stay where we are than to add a couple dogs just to add teams and dilute the product

I don't think the SEC will get stuck with adding "dog." I think there would be some big-name teams that would jump at the chance to join the SEC.

Certainly not good for the fans, sure puts the limits on travel for fans, not to mention, higher expenses for the schools...

You don't understand money and market share.

The Texas tv market is twice bigger than the entire SEC West combined. Get A&M and UT and the SEC TV contract will grow tremendously.

Seriously, what is "Pacific" about the state of Texas? Geography should matter.
