They were asking who you would trade for strasburg on ESPN radio and no one brought him up. People were giving stupid answers. Thought this would be an easy one.

I agree that this question is stupid and has a very obvious answer.

If I'm the Nats I wouldn't trade him for just anyone. His contract is controlled for some time, and he has tons of potential. They aren't exactly the Yankees in terms of budget so having control of good, young talent is a necessity. Sure CC or Johan may be better and more proven, but do you take on a 20+ deal for a guy that could possibly be NEAR that level that you're paying ~.5? frick no.

Just looked up Ubaldo's contract...I would trade Strasburg for him. Locked up through 2014 with his max year at 8 mil...why not? No brainer.

Anyone who would even think about trading stras for cc or santana is dumb.

because he will be arbitration eligible after 2011 and 2012. He signed the contract with the Rockies, so if he is moved he may not ne so nice to the next team...
The new team would hold the option for his third year of arbitration, but he could hammer them potentially for 2 seasons. If he conitinues as the top pitcher in baseball that is

No pitcher has ever been better then Ubaldo is right now. It is simply not possible. Ubaldo is pitching as good as ANY PITCHER HAS EVER PTICHED.
That said i think when it is all said and done I think Strasburg will have the better career. Either way if I am the Rockies I would rather have Ubaldo and if I'm the Nats I would rather have Strasburg.
A better question would be who would you rather have for the next 5 years Ubaldo Jimenez or Robinison Cano.

Pedro Martinez, circa 2000, disagrees

NL has 4 starters with a sub 2.00 ERA and 17 with a sub 3.00 ERA.
Ian Kennedy cant even get out of 2-3 innings pitching in the AL and here he is posting a 3.17 ERA in the NL.
Not to downplay the kind of season Ubaldo is having, its just that pitching in the NL is way easier than the AL.

Not having to face those full time DH's is a huge bonus
What Pedro did in 2000, through the same amount of games, is much more impressive than what Ubaldo has done so far this year
Comparison through 12 games:
....................IP......H....ER...HR...BB...SO...WHIP....BAA.....ERA
Jimenez..... 87.1 ...52.....9......2.....29....78.... 0.93 ... .176 ... 0.93
Martinez.... 91.1 ...51....10.....3.....18...121.... 0.76 ... .160 ... 0.99
Of those 12 games, Pedro pitched 8 of them on the road.
And here are some of the DH's he faced in those 12 games and what they hit that year
Game 1 - Edgar Martinez - .324 BA, 100 runs, 37 HR, 145 RBI
Game 2 - Mo Vaughn - .272 BA, 93 runs, 36 HR, 117 RBI
Game 4 - David Segui - .334 BA, 93 runs, 19 HR, 103 RBI
Game 5 - Jim Thome - .269 BA, 106 runs, 37 HR, 106 RBI
Game 6 - Jose Canseco - .252, 47 runs, 15 HR, 49 RBI, (98 games played)
Game 8 - Brad Fullmer - .295, 76 runs, 32 HR, 104 RBI
Game 9 - Brad Fullmer - .295, 76 runs, 32 HR, 104 RBI
Game 11 - Jim Thome - .269 BA, 106 runs, 37 HR, 106 RBI
Just imagine what Pedro's numbers would have looked like had he gotten the chance to face a pitcher instead of those DH's

Pedro finished that 2000 season with a 1.74 ERA. The next best ERA in the AL that year?
3.70 by Roger Clemens

I don't know what Pedro's Adjusted ERA was through this point in the season but Jimenez is on pace to destroy pedro's modern day record of 296 or so, with his currently being 483. He's still got a ways to go.

Matt Cain actually had a better game than SS on Strasburg's debut day.
Cain vs Reds: CG 9IP 0ER
Cain's last 4 starts, 34IP 1ER
