...albeit, speaking about Notre Dame
While football is the main driver, you have to realize that all of the non-revenue generating sports are part of the deal. It does not make a hell of a lot of economic sense for schools like UT or TAMU to be sending their swim/tennis teams (and other non-revenue generating sports) out to Seattle and Eugene multiple times a year (even if they are in an "eastern" division for football, that would not operate for these other sports as there are more games/matches/meets, etc.)

It does when you're making twice the money from TV deals

OF COURSE we all realize this...but the matter of the fact is that the driver behind all of this IS football. Texas is a self-contained sports program. The potential for added revenues are probably more than enough to finance all the travels of the non-revenue sports and still turn a pretty hefty profit.

$$$$ is not an issue for these two schools. They aren't idiots and will go where they will get the most revenue, but the traveling expenses of other non-football teams is not something that will make or break their budgets. These are very wealthy athletic departments and universities.

Right. Football and basketball (for the elites) essentially covers everything else, and this would just happen on a larger scale.
