Did Mainieri make a bad choice with this kid?

Former Neville player Raph Rhymes was named to the NJCAA All-American first team and received the American Baseball Coaches Association's Division II Player of the Year award.
Rhymes was Division II's top RBI producer, driving in 94 runs with a .491 batting average — the seventh best in the division. He also led in total hits with 105 and tied for the lead in doubles with 28 for LSUE.
"I had a couple offers from other schools out of high school, but I had always wanted to be an LSU Tiger," Rhymes said. "So I decided to pass up those offers and go try to walk on."
Rhymes went through the entire walk-on process and made LSU's practice squad, working with the team throughout the fall.
But just before Christmas break, LSU coach Paul Mainieri gave Rhymes the bad news that he wouldn't be on the team in the spring — that team won the 2009 NCAA World Series.

Maybe he deserves another chance. Any eligibility left?

Raph without a doubt would've helped out as the extra infielder that we needed this year. Mainieri told him to go to LSUE to show what he has during the season, since he didn't have a spot for him on the roster last year. Raph has gotten a lot bigger than he was when he tried to walk on last year. He has a great swing too. He put 8 balls out in batting practice last year at tryouts, more than all of the other people trying out combined. He's also put on about 20lbs. He only 8 strikeouts all season, out of over 200 AB's. No way we couldn't use someone like that.

No one yet from what I've heard. Haven't talked to him since mid-season. I know he's had offers, but I'm not exactly sure from who. From what I've heard he's staying at eunice next year.

Wouldn't mind it. Hitting nearly .500 with plenty of power and no strikeouts practically?

he made a much worse choice with Jacoby Jones
i'm shocked to see that it's not a bigger story

And T.J. Forrester. Also, probably could have used that Zeigler kid this year and next. Manieri is good, but he's not infallible, and he's certainly not the undisputed best coach in CBB. He makes bizarre personnel moves sometimes.

how did Mainieri mess up with Jones? I thought he was committed.

scholarships are tight, every coach at big schools go through this
you just dont follow them with a magnifying glass.
