What did you say Barry?
We haven't had to start laying any people off, or moving people around, yet. We do have personnel on a few rigs that are just sitting around. Not sure how long the oil companies are going to keep paying for 3 meals and a bed a day for 140 (give/take) people.
What kind of work do you do?

How do you feel about Macae Brazil? Angola? Equatorial Guinea?
I may have to become an Ex-Pat myself.

Avoid E.G., they have cerebral malaria there that will kill you in a heart beat. Also avoid Nigeria and Angola. Both shitholes. Angola is the best of the 3.
I may be going back international soon but it's not because of this. I got lucky and was approached about a position in Brisbane, Australia.

The ramifications of the stoppage of drilling has not been effectively reported (go figure). There will be lots of layoffs in Louisiana throughout the south of I-10 corridor because of it.
The rigs will not just sit idle with folks on the payroll twiddling thumbs waiting for Fearless Leader to give them the ok to get back to work. They will be working in other countries.

Where are the state officials in all of this? They want our votes, but they don't want to stick their necks on the line. PATHETIC......where is Bobby? I will lose a lot of respect for him if he doesn't stand up to barry on this one.

An article that came out today that had an estimated impact of 10 million dollars per month per rig impact on the economy. So a 330 million dollar a month impact isn't shite I guess. Who is going to pay for this health care and the auto bailouts? Obama sure stepped up when the auto workers union was afraid that a guy installing tires making $45/hr would be out of work or heaven forbid that he may have to take a pay cut.

Did the article mention how many jobs lost? It could be quite significant and also cause some small companies to go under.

I'm sure if the unions had their tentacles around the O&G industry he would be bowing down and defending it to the best of his ability. Then again, if it were largely unionized, all operations would have been moved overseas years ago.

The article talks about 800-1400 jobs per rig.
Even at the low end were talking about 26,000 jobs. That's going to be a pretty good hit. When the rigs leave for other countries, good luck getting them back too.

If the regs become to much bs you are going to have a hard time getting the rigs back into the GOM, this is liable to be very bad for most of the Gulf Coast.
