You think it's bad when you are making your claim? Just imagine when your lawyer's trying to admit evidence of your loss of income.

That sure puts a whole new spin on it...
I was feeling realy bad for them, but knowing 33% of my salary goes to taxes and they have been living tax free, that sure changes my sympathy a little.
...and I grew up in St. Bernard.

Wow, the audacity of a statement like that. I feel badly that these people are not able to work right now but if they chose not to pay their taxes that is their own fault.

So paying taxes is not part of their heritage, culture or legacy??? If BP figures out a way to compensate them, the IRS should go after some serious back taxes and penalties.

These people are not exempt from taxes just because they were paid in cash. To even make that argument pisses me off.

I feel terrible for their loss of revenue but this angers me to no end.

1) You are operating on the misperception that in 1987, the Louisiana Supreme Court was not composed of fricking morons.

2) The tax at issue was a MUNICIPAL earnings tax, which the Court determined to be an "income" tax imposed by a political subdivision, which was EXPRESSLY prohibited under Art. VII, Sec. 4(c) of the Louisiana Constitution of 1974.

3) The same LOUISIANA Constitution specifically allows for a statewide income tax.

Screw the IRS.

Simplify the Tax Code and get the IRS out of our lives.

The task before the court was simple was the earnings tax an income tax ? if yes, its unconstitutional or if no it is not an income tax then its constitutional. Simple yes or no situation, no frills. Read that case very carefully my friend, its separates the "what is" from the "what is not".

The case perfectly matches the congressional record for the buck act.
